Environmental Scientist - Environmental Risk Assessment group

Environmental Risk Assessment Group:

The Environmental Risk Assessment Group is responsible for preparing environmental risk assessments (ERAs) to support regulatory submissions and environmental stewardship goals. The ERA group outsources studies to determine the physical chemical properties, environmental toxicity, and environmental fate of Lilly active ingredients and related chemicals. Members of the ERA group support issues related to pharmaceuticals in the environment (PiE) and advance the science of environmental risk assessment (ERA). The ERA group is part of the Health Safety and Environment (HSE) function of Lilly Research Laboratories.

The ERA group is seeking an enthusiastic, well-organized and detail-oriented individual to manage study contracting, projects, scientific data and documents. The individual will need a science degree in order to understand, review and extract data from technical documents. The individual should enjoy using innovative methods to analyze and improve processes.

Environmental Scientist Responsibilities

  • Managing the outsourcing of multiple, concurrent environmental studies to external vendors, primarily contract research organizations (CROs). Associated tasks will include

  • Logistics such as transferring materials and information to and from CROs

  • Financial aspects such as requesting quotations andtracking purchase orders, invoices and budget

  • Documentation and communication of progress of studies and projects

  • Fostering strong, successful vendor engagements through timely communication, troubleshooting, and maintaining internal engagement systems

  • Creating standardized templates for study protocols and reports

  • Managing environmental data and documents using databases and sharepoint

  • Preparing data graphs and presentation slides

  • Conducting quality reviews of environmental documents

  • Mining and organizing data from scientific literature as well as public and internal databases

  • Using innovative tools to develop and implement process improvements such as automation of routine tasks

  • Assisting with projects in other HSE groups as needed using the transferable skills above

Required Qualifications:

  • BS or MS Degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry or a relevant field

  • 0 - 1+ years of industry experience (preferably R&D pharmaceutical or biotech environments) OR academic experience within a laboratory beyond coursework

Additional Skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Experience with spreadsheet and presentations software

  • Experience searching and reading scientific literature and technical documents

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$63,000 - $162,800

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
