We are currently looking for a Lab Manager to lead day-to-day operations for the laboratory of Dr. Joseph Mougous , now located at Yale University . This individual will work collaboratively with a multifaceted and interactive team that primarily investigates the molecular mechanisms bacteria employ to interact with or antagonize their microbial neighbors. About the Lab Manager role:
You will hold an integral role within the lab as the go-to person coordinating the day-to-day operations involved in running the lab and serving as both a professional partner to lab leadership and the primary liaison between the lab and various external groups (Yale administrative offices, EH&S, HHMI science operations offices, vendors, etc.). You will have a background in microbiology and lab operations/administration, be committed to fostering a thriving, collaborative work environment, able to exhibit strong communication skills, and have a desire to be a part of a robust scientific community. What youll do:
Initiate and manage orders while monitoring the labs budget and keeping track of supplies and expenditures on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
Serve as primary point of contact for all lab communications, including close coordination with vendors, regulatory authorities, and Yale administrative staff for service contracts, inspections, lab equipment maintenance, lab safety, repairs, infrastructure needs, space allocation, etc.
Manage and update protocols, SOPs, and other lab documentation as needed.
Manage new hire orientations, onboarding, and general oversight of all lab team members, including ensuring their training and compliance with all internal/external governing bodies.
Manage the lab meeting schedule and assist with planning and execution of lab meetings, events, and team activities.
Perform day-to-day research support duties as needed for microbiology experiments and projects.
What you bring:
- A bachelors degree in the life sciences is required. An advanced degree would be a plus.
- Previous experience serving in a lab management capacity within a research environment would be a plus.
- Previous experience working with bacteria and performing standard microbiology techniques is required.

Compensation Range:
Laboratory Manager I $74,760 (minimum) - $93,500 (midpoint) - $121,485 (maximum)
Laboratory Manager II $91,560 (minimum) - $114,400 (midpoint) - $148,785 (maximum)
Pay Type: Annual
HHMIs salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
