Description

A postdoctoral fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Khalid El Saafien, investigating baroreception and vascular stretch in cardiovascular disease. Dr. El Saafien's lab is located in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport, with a long-term interest in autonomic neuroscience, sensory afferents, baroreception, and cardiovascular disease (CVD). In association with the Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and Sciences (CCDS), the fellow will receive extensive training and build up the networks in autonomic neuroscience, in vivo optogenetics, blood pressure recording, immunohistochemistry and advanced microscopy, transcriptomics, induction of rodent models of hypertension, metabolism, and CVD disease. A candidate with a research background in autonomic neuroscience, hypertension, vagal afferents, and CVD is welcome to apply and submit a CV to Dr. El Saafien at .... Occasional travel, M-F 8 am - 4:30 pm. Additional hours may be required (exact hours should be modified as appropriate). Lunch/breaks are dictated by workflow.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree from an accredited institution in physiology, neuroscience, pharmacology, or related discipline and training within a selected area of specialization.
  • Experience in rodent surgery, telemetric blood pressure recording, tissue processing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven extensive experience of working with rodents, including surgical techniques.
  • Extensive experience in immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and advanced microscopy.
  • Experience in blood pressure recordings in rodents.
  • Experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques including transcriptomics.
  • Strong publication record.
  • A background in cardiovascular diseases is highly preferred.
