Job Description:

Position Overview / Introduction to Lab / Center / PI

Job Title: Postdoctoral Associate/Research Scientist - Electrical/Computer Engineering

Office/Location: SUNY Polytechnic Institute

The Wireless and Intelligent Next Generation Systems (WINGS) Center at SUNY Polytechnic Institute is inviting exceptional candidates to apply for a post-doctoral research associate position in machine learning/AI techniques. This position offers a unique opportunity to conduct both basic and applied research alongside collaborators addressing diverse scientific and security challenges relevant to WINGS and the Department of Defense (DOD), specifically the US Army DEVCOM Analysis Center.

Topics of particular interest include:

1. Development of novel machine learning and AI models, as well as the adaptation of existing approaches for AI-enabled decision aid systems and their analytical frameworks.

2. Development of mechanisms for tuning Large Language Models (LLMs) and multi-modal foundation models to function effectively in resource-constrained environments.

3. Training LLMs, large-scale deep learning systems, and/or large foundation models using GPU/TPU parallelization while setting up the environment/system network under various constraints, such as limited processing power.

4. Techniques that support end users in applying machine learning methods effectively.

The position provides access to world-class computing resources, which will support the establishment of a networking cluster for developing the tuned model and emulating resource-constrained system clusters. Access to these platforms will enable computing at scale and, combined with access to unique data sources, will ensure that the successful candidate has the resources necessary to tackle challenging DOD problems. The successful candidate will join a growing research group with diverse expertise and projects that align with the missions of WINGS and DOD.

The position is based in Utica, NY.

Job Responsibilities

Conducting original research in collaboration with the PI and Co-PIs, and presenting or publishing findings at relevant workshops, seminars, or conferences.

Exploring innovative methods to communicate research outcomes and reporting results in a timely manner.

Planning and executing seminars, workshops, or symposia with the assistance of WINGS.

Collaborating with DOD partners on various aspects of data generation, processing, and methods evaluation.

Formulating high-quality research ideas and directions in collaboration with mentors in the department.

Communicating research progress, challenges, and achievements, and engaging within and beyond the department for potential new collaborations.

Other duties as assigned

This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual checks.
