Professional development opportunity and mentorship A rapidly growing center within an academic setting HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking an experienced Research Associate I in the Viral Immunology Facility. The essential duties and responsibilities of the Research Associate I are the following: qPCR and dPCR assays to detect viral DNA from lesions, CSF, or fomites. Western blot assays and analysis of results towards designing automated reading imaging, and archival preservation in accordance with CLIA Testing Personnel, TP definitions. ELISA analysis of serum and CSF antibody recognition of virus targets of the immune system and development of improved technologies for submission to CLIA. Analysis of SDS-PAGE quality control mechanisms n accordance with CLIA Testing Personnel, TP definitions. Supervise staff and students on instrumentation protocol in accordance with CLIA regulations. Perform ELISA assays using B virus-infected cell lysates that have been verified as inactivated as well recombinant protein assays, including those for which HSV-1 and HSV-2 antigens are used, with each assay designed to detect the presence of antibodies against any of these viruses, including in proficiency testing in accordance with CLIA Testing Personnel, TP definitions. Utilize the laboratory information system which is now within FileMaker Pro, ensuring the accuracy data entered and archived for daily use. Maintain diagnostic laboratory equipment by providing oversight of scheduled preventative maintenance in accordance with the regulations of U.S. HHS, Division of CMS, CLIA, troubleshooting procedures, performing routine repairs, and ensuring staff compliance to established policies and procedures regarding automation of any testing steps. Supervise automation of western blot assay interpretation using NIH Image or other similar software to evaluate fractions, electroblotting, and nitrocellulose membrane transfers using Bio-Rad systems and software for accessing image analyses. Monitor laboratory processes to maintain and continually re-define quality assurance standards. Provide training for student assistants to perform daily QC recordings, collection and disposal of biowastes and hazardous substances. Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining specialized testing and concordant software for optimizing storage and retrieval of daily data as needed. Validate gap analysis in the LIMS for discovery of content that needs modifications or changes within the FileMaker Pro operating system. Anticipated Annual Salary Range is: $73,000.00 - $90,000. Salary offers will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications in relation to the Minimum Hiring Standards. Candidates earlier in their careers are typically offered salaries closer to the minimum of the hiring range, while those with more advanced or relevant experience may be considered for compensation at or above the hiring range.
