About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Early Research & Development Scientist to join an innovative Research Staining Technology team. This onsite contract opportunity is ideal for scientists who enjoy hands?on laboratory work, cross?functional collaboration, and contributing to early?stage product development in the pathology and tissue diagnostics space. You will play a key role in advancing scientific research, developing novel staining technologies, and supporting the transition from discovery through early manufacturing processes.
Qualifications & Education
  • Ph.D. (entry level) in a scientific discipline
  • Masters degree with 3+ years of relevant industry or research experience
Key Responsibilities
  • Initiate, lead, and execute scientific research and early product development activities supporting new and existing products.
  • Develop and refine early manufacturing process strategies aligned with research outcomes.
  • Assess the feasibility of applying scientific principles and innovative concepts to new inventions and technical challenges, with a focus on pathology lab assays.
  • Design and perform laboratory experiments using a strong theoretical foundation and hands?on technical expertise across multiple techniques.
  • Develop new staining formulations, contribute to data analysis workflows, and explore creative applications of AI?enabled tools.
  • Analyze experimental data, evaluate results, draw conclusions, and identify opportunities for process or documentation improvements.
  • Prepare and maintain high?quality technical documentation, including protocols, reports, summaries, and quantitative analyses.
  • Present experimental findings to departmental teams and cross?functional project stakeholders.
  • Contribute to patent development efforts and support the definition of novel components, products, and processes.
  • Act as an internal and external scientific resource, potentially advising leadership or representing scientific capabilities in select forums.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and electronic records while ensuring compliance with GMP, GLP, and Design Control standards.
Required Laboratory Experience & Skills
  • Hands?on experience with cell culture , including maintaining live cell cultures.
  • Ability to apply advanced scientific knowledge to research projects and implement Design of Experiments (DOE) approaches when appropriate.
Preferred Experience & Technical Skills
  • Background in tissue diagnostics , particularly immunohistochemistry (IHC) within a pathology laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of primary stains and special stains used in diagnostic workflows.
  • Experience using Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) .
  • Familiarity with SAFe Agile methodologies in a research or product development setting.
  • Experience with image analysis , image scanning, or related programming workflows.
  • Exposure to or hands?on experience with Digital Pathology tools and platforms.
  • Tissue culture expertise, especially with spheroid and organoid models , is highly desirable.
