We’re looking for a dependable and detail-oriented individual to join our Quality Control team for the peak harvest season. In this fast-paced, hands-on role, you’ll help ensure our products meet the highest standards during our busiest time of year.

Primary location in Niagara-on-the-Lake, with regular/periodic temporary work in Grimsby as required by business needs.

The Harvest QC Laboratory Technician is responsible for executing required analysis in a fast paced lab of harvested juice and wine samples throughout the winemaking process in an accurate and timely manner.

What this teammate will be responsible for:

Food Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Responsible for performing all quality control analyses utilizing a variety of chemical and microbial techniques/equipment.
  • Assist with grape maturity sampling for all vineyard blocks and fermentation monitoring
  • Responsible for careful handling and sample preparation of all test items to maintain integrity and prevent cross contamination.
  • Follow WHMIS requirements and provide for safe and clean working conditions including proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemical waste.
  • document actions when non-conformances are identified during daily on-line Bottle Shop inspections to ensure regulatory and quality compliance.
  • Responsible for approval of product for release to bottling to ensure on-time start-up.
  • Execute Food Safety verifications procedures including water sampling, allergen and sanitation status of processing equipment; direct Cellar/Bottle Shop personnel to correct failed verification tests of tanks and processing equipment to bring equipment into regulatory or quality compliance.
  • Responsible for understanding regulatory/quality limits, identifying non-conformances, reporting and following non-conformance procedure using specialized software.
  • Data entry
  • Responsible for maintaining analytical equipment in good operating condition including routine calibrations and assisting with troubleshooting when equipment malfunctions to ensure validity of results.
  • Willing to work extended hours as necessary during harvest season
  • Provide laboratory support that services HACCP certified operations for national sales volume of 150,000 HL in Central Canada.
  • Provide laboratory support for Nationally Co-Packed products.

What skills, responsibilities and experiences this teammate bring :

  • Degree or Diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or related experience preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of analytical chemistry and microbial testing methods
  • Strong attention to detail with capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Personable and excellent communication skills required for inter-departmental collaboration

Additional Details:

  • Physical Effort – Frequent periods spent standing and performing repetitive tasks. Must be able to carry 50Lbs.
  • Physical Environment – Works in a high paced laboratory environment with daily need to go into the cellars or Bottle Shop, Safe handling of hazardous chemicals and interaction with cross-functional teams.
  • Sensory Attention – Substantial attention to detail and pay close attention to auditory or visual cues within the working environment.
  • Safety – safe handling of toxic and corrosive chemicals
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including overtime, and weekend availability during the harvest season
  • This is a full-time contract role with the possibility of extension based on business needs
