We are seeking a biochemist to join the Biochemistry group within Discovery Sciences Department. In this role, the scientist will contribute to our early drug discovery efforts by supporting design, development, and execution of a variety of biochemical and biophysical assays. They will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to advance projects from hit identification and qualification through lead optimization. The ideal candidate will be scientifically curious, team-oriented, and driven by a growth mindset.
Summary of the Essential Functions of the Job
Assay development and execution
Design, develop, and execute a variety of biochemical (FI, HTRF, FP etc.) and biophysical assays (SPR, BLI, ITC, DSF etc.) to support hit identification, validation, and mechanistic studies of various modalities, including inhibitors, activators and degraders.
Troubleshoot assay performance issues by analyzing assay variability, signal-to-noise ratios, reagent stability, and optimize protocols for robustness, scalability, and reproducibility.
Perform high-throughput screening (HTS) and related assays to evaluate compound libraries, assessing affinity, specificity, and binding kinetics (e.G., IC50, Kd, kon, koff).
Data collection and analysis
Collect, organize and record biochemical and biophysical assay data, opportunities for data analysis and presentation.
Lab equipment proficiency
Operate various laboratory instruments and automation tools, including multichannel pipettes, multi-well plate liquid dispensers, multimode plate readers, and other biophysical instruments.
Minimum Requirements
BS or MS in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Biology, Protein Science, or a related life science field with several years of relevant experience;or a PhD in a relevant field with 1+ years of industry experience preferred
Fundamental understanding of enzymology and biophysics (e.G., enzyme kinetics, enzyme inhibition and activation;and kinetics and thermodynamics of protein ligand interactions
Experiment efficiency with wet lab work, such as preparation, characterization and caretaking of buffers, reagents, and consumables.
Hands-on experience with protein characterization, biochemical and biophysical assays with various throughputs and technologies.
Experience with data analysis and curve-fitting software (e.G., Prism, Genedata).
Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills
Effective oral and written communication skills, including presenting data and project updates.
Additional Preferences
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across disciplines to meet project goals and timelines
Flexibility to adjust priorities as needed to meet evolving project needs
Ability to work independently as well as part of a highly collaborative team
Highly organized with strong analytical, documentation, time management, and multitasking skills
Eager to learn, with a growth mindset and willingness to adopt new techniques and technologies
Views personal success as a function of the team s success
Proactive, hardworking, and a data-driven decision maker
