This position is with the U. S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), within the Directorate of Technical Support and Emergency Management (DTSEM), OSHA Technical Center in the Industrial Hygiene Chemistry Division, located in Sandy, UT.

  • This position is at the full performance level.
  • This position is inside the bargaining unit.
  • This position is NOT remote. Selectee will be expected to report to the office above.

The Chemist Series (1320) has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR):

Basic Requirements:

  1. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

    OR

  2. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

For the GS-13: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12, in the Federal Service.

Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

Qualifying specialized experience for theGS-13 Chemist includes:

  • Applied advanced knowledge of industrial hygiene sampling and analysis for substances to which workers may be exposed.
  • Knowledge of and experience developing methods to be used for the collection of industrial hygiene samples.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with OSHA chemical exposure standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with others in completing complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow laboratory policies and procedures.
