Position Overview
The Xu Lab, in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marshall Universitys Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, is seeking a part-time technician. The primary objective of this position is to construct genetic mutants of Streptococcus pyogenes .

Key Responsibilities
Mutant Construction: Design and generate targeted gene mutations in streptococcal strains.

• Molecular Cloning: Perform PCR , restriction cloning, plasmid purification, and gel electrophoresis.
• Bacterial Transformation: Introduce recombinant DNA into bacteria using electroporation or chemical competence.
• Strain Verification: Validate mutant strains using screening PCR and DNA sequencing data analysis.
• Inventory Tracking: Maintain clean records of primers, plasmids, and newly created glycerol stocks.

Salary Range:
Salary is commensurate with experience and internal equity

Required Qualifications Education:

• Bachelors Degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related biomedical field

Experience:

• Experience: Prior hands-on experience with molecular cloning protocols is highly preferred.
• Core Skills: Proficiency in aseptic technique, bacterial culturing, and standard PCR assays.
• Attributes: Strong attention to experimental detail and reliable data documentation habits.
