We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Lab Technician to support Gypsum and Ceilings R&D activities within a fast-paced laboratory environment. This role supports both the Malvern and Kulpsville, PA facilities and is ideal for candidates with prior laboratory, manufacturing, construction materials, or testing experience, including co-op or internship backgrounds.
The Lab Technician will assist with product testing, sample preparation, installation and deconstruction of ceiling systems, data analysis, and laboratory operations supporting new product development and manufacturing initiatives.
Position OverviewThe selected candidate will support research and development activities related to gypsum, insulation, and ceiling products. Responsibilities include measuring acoustics, mechanics, weathering performance, and conducting hands-on testing using specialized laboratory equipment.
This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Candidates should be comfortable performing physically active laboratory work, including lifting ceiling tile cartons, operating motorized lifts, and using hand tools while following all safety and HSE procedures.
Key Responsibilities Laboratory & Product Testing- Conduct laboratory testing related to acoustics, mechanics, and weathering performance
- Prepare, install, and deconstruct ceiling suspension systems including grid and tile assemblies
- Perform routine and exploratory experiments according to ASTM, UL, and company procedures
- Prepare and process material samples for testing and evaluation
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory and testing equipment
- Assist with gypsum board and ceiling product experimentation and testing
- Collect, analyze, and document laboratory and engineering data
- Perform basic statistical analysis using Excel and testing software
- Prepare concise and technically accurate reports and summaries
- Communicate findings effectively to engineers, scientists, and project stakeholders
- Maintain laboratory notebooks and testing documentation
- Maintain safe laboratory operations while following all HSE procedures and regulations
- Support lab organization, 5S initiatives, audits, and equipment maintenance
- Order and maintain laboratory supplies and materials inventory
- Continuously monitor workplace safety and ensure compliance with PPE requirements
- Cross-train across multiple laboratory operations and testing areas
- High school diploma with 3–4 years of laboratory or chemical testing experience required
- Associate degree preferred in Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science, or related scientific field
- Internship, co-op, or prior laboratory experience accepted
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and laboratory software tools
- Comfortable working with chemicals, laboratory equipment, and basic machinery
- Ability to multitask and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work at heights using motorized lifts
- Comfortable using hand tools and cutting tools with appropriate PPE
- Experience with ceilings, drywall, building materials, or related industries
- Experience with analytical lab equipment and testing procedures
- Method development and technical reporting experience
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and equipment maintenance skills
- Position requires travel between Malvern and Kulpsville facilities (approximately 30 minutes apart)
