Position Overview and Responsibilities

A temporary Postdoctoral Scientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kenneth Humphries within the Aging & Metabolism Research Program at OMRF to study the intersection of glycolytic regulation and electrophysiology. Studies will focus on the PFKFB2-regulated fructose-2,6-bisphosphate axis and its downstream effects on mitochondrial biology, redox signaling, and Ca? handling in the heart, with particular emphasis on how disruption of this pathway contributes to arrhythmogenic phenotypes and cardiac dysfunction. This is a mentored position for postdoctoral training.

Incumbents at this level are responsible for the following:

Planning, designing and conducting research experiments

Managing research projects

Preparing reports and papers for publication, presentation and future research

Contributing to grant writing

Encouraged to write applications for fellowships

There is potential for qualified applicants to be accepted onto an NIA-funded T32 training grant fellowship.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a biological science, chemistry, physics or other relevant area, M.D., or equivalent.
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic about science.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, and able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and write summaries of results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous research experience in cardiac physiology and biochemistry is highly preferred.
  • Competitive individuals will have experience and knowledge of cardiac physiology, function, histology and biochemistry as well as basic molecular and biochemical techniques.
  • Competitive candidates will also demonstrate proficiency in interpreting assay results, summarizing findings, and assisting with manuscript preparation, grant writing, supervising graduate students and presenting data at national meetings.
