Description

The Microscopy and Advanced Bioimaging Core at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a motivated and collaborative Core Research Associate I to join our shared resource facility supporting a broad range of cutting-edge biomedical research programs.

This position is ideal for candidates interested in advanced microscopy technologies, image analysis, and shared resource operations within a highly collaborative academic research environment.

The successful candidate will support day-to-day microscopy core operations including user training, instrument quality assurance, microscopy workflows, and image analysis support. Depending on experience and operational needs, the role also includes hands-on laboratory support for electron (EM), and light-sheet microscopy workflows and sample preparation activities.

Responsibilities
  • Support operation and maintenance of advanced microscopy instrumentation.
  • Assist researchers with microscopy workflows, image acquisition, and experimental setup.
  • Train users in microscope operation and imaging best practices.
  • Perform routine quality assurance, calibration, troubleshooting, and documentation of imaging systems.
  • Support image processing and quantitative image analysis workflows using open-source and commercial software platforms.
  • Assist with SOP development, user documentation, and shared resource operations.
  • Support electron microscopy laboratory workflows and sample preparation activities.
  • Maintain compliance with institutional safety and operational policies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors
  • 3 years related experience (OR Masters + 1 year experience in related field)

Preferred Skills

  • BS/BA in biology, biomedical sciences, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Prior experience in microscopy, imaging, or laboratory research environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, or electron microscopy is desirable.
  • Experience with image analysis software such as Fiji/ImageJ, CellProfiler, QuPath, Imaris, or related tools is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Interest in working in a collaborative shared resource environment.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58824 - $88236 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
