Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology

Piper Companies is seeking a Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology to join a government-focused infectious disease research program for a contract-to-hire position located onsite in Fort Detrick, MD. The Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology will support microbiology and molecular biology initiatives within a high-containment laboratory environment focused on biodefense and medical countermeasure development.

Responsibilities of the Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology include:

• Conduct bacteriology-based experiments, including culture, isolation, and characterization of bacterial organisms in controlled lab settings
• Execute molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and cloning-related activities
• Support cell culture workflows and biochemical assays, including protein analysis and cell viability testing
• Assist with research studies involving animal models, including preparation, dosing, sample collection, and documentation
• Maintain laboratory operations by managing supplies, equipment upkeep, safety compliance, and accurate data tracking

Qualifications for the Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology include:

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences field
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on laboratory experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or infectious disease research
• Working knowledge of PCR, electrophoresis, DNA prep, and microbial culture techniques
• Willingness to work with animal models and within BSL-2/BSL-3 laboratory environments
• Ability to obtain a Secret clearance and meet federal program requirements

Compensation for the Lab Technician IV - Bacteriology:

Salary Range: $32-$36/hr (USD)
