Job Description

The Quality Control Lab Technician performs a full range of laboratory testing to ensure that products consistently meet established specifications and quality standards. This role uses advanced analytical instrumentation and wet chemistry techniques to test raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods, while accurately documenting results and collaborating closely with the quality team. Responsibilities

  • Perform quality control testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to verify compliance with established specifications.
  • Operate and maintain Gas Chromatography (GC) systems to analyze samples according to approved methods.
  • Operate and maintain High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) systems to perform detailed analytical testing.
  • Use UV-Visible spectrophotometers to conduct optical absorption and related analyses.
  • Use infrared (IR) and FTIR spectrophotometers to perform qualitative and quantitative analyses of samples.
  • Conduct pH analyses and other routine measurements to support quality control decisions.
  • Perform residue after evaporation testing, fluorescents testing, and other specialized analyses as required.
  • Utilize wet chemistry methods, including titrations and other classical techniques, to analyze samples accurately.
  • Set up daily standards, daily Karl Fischer (KF) calibrations, and special-purpose laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable testing.
  • Plan and prioritize the sequence of testing for incoming samples to meet operational and production needs.
  • Review, interpret, and summarize analytical data to support quality assessments and decision-making.
  • Record analytical results using good documentation practices to ensure traceability and compliance with quality requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with the QC team and cross-functional teams to share results, raise issues, and support problem-solving.
  • Play an active role in the quality management team by contributing to continuous improvement of laboratory methods and processes.
  • Support raw material testing, in-process analysis, and finished goods testing within a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Assist with quality assurance activities and formulations support as experience grows.
  • Follow all laboratory procedures, test methods, and safety protocols consistently.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support laboratory and quality operations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience performing laboratory testing in a chemistry-focused environment, including wet chemistry techniques such as titration.
  • Ability to operate and interpret results from Gas Chromatography (GC) systems.
  • Ability to operate and interpret results from High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) systems.
  • Proficiency using UV-Visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometers for optical absorption measurements.
  • Proficiency using infrared (IR) and FTIR spectrophotometers for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Experience with pH analysis and related routine laboratory measurements.
  • Experience with raw material testing, in-process analysis, and finished goods testing in a quality control setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a hard science preferred, with a strong preference for Chemistry or Biochemistry; degrees in Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, or related fields with substantial chemistry experience from school are also suitable.
  • Entry-level candidates may qualify if they have strong chemistry lab coursework or internship experience.
  • Candidates with an associate degree in Science and at least 1 year of industry chemistry experience are also eligible.
  • Candidates without a degree who have 23 years of recent industry experience in a chemistry laboratory setting and a high school diploma may also be a fit.
  • Background in quality assurance, quality control, or laboratory-based roles is beneficial.
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing or related industries is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with viscosity measurements and analysis is a plus.
  • Interest in supporting formulations and broader QA activities as responsibilities expand over time.
  • Ability to contribute to a high-retention, team-oriented culture and support long-term organizational growth.

Work Environment

This role is based in a quality control laboratory within a chemical manufacturing plant. The QC lab team typically includes one other technician and a supervisor present in the lab at all times, fostering close collaboration and support. The training schedule runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. After the training period, the position follows a 2-2-3 rotating schedule of 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The laboratory uses advanced analytical technologies including Gas Chromatography (GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), UV-Visible spectrophotometers, infrared and FTIR spectrophotometers, and equipment for pH analysis, residue after evaporation, fluorescents testing, and other wet chemistry methods. The facility is part of a rapidly growing operation that is expanding its footprint, offering significant opportunities for upward mobility and involvement in formulations and QA functions over time. Dress code in the lab consists of jeans and a plain shirt, complemented by required personal protective equipment (PPE).

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fairfield, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
