Send job Job Details Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSalary: $51,000 - $59,000 The Center for Aquaculture Technologies (CAT), a private aquaculture innovation and research company, is seeking a Research Associate to support innovations in genome editing technologies being developed at the CAT laboratory located in San Diego, CA. This is a full-time, on-site, permanent position and will begin with the successful candidate reporting to the genome editing scientists. Why Join the Center for Aquaculture Technologies? Your work will support our ongoing development of technologies that will advance sustainable aquaculture practices worldwide. Responsibilities Assist in the planning and execution of laboratory experiments for ongoing research projects. Culture, maintain, and monitor established cell lines (e.g., HEK293, CHO, RTG-2, CHSE-214) under sterile conditions. Isolate, expand, and maintain primary cell lines derived from fish tissues. Conduct cell culture experiments with minimal supervision, including electroporation, transfection, and transduction of various cell lines. Conduct genome editing experiments and associated molecular work such as microinjection, genotyping, next-generation sequencing, and data analysis. Contribute ideas to the optimization of genome editing technologies including but not limited to the improvement of molecular techniques, in vivo or in vitro lab protocols, and new gene targets of interest. Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, including laboratory notebooks and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring compliance with protocols and regulatory standards. Open to occasional travel, with an expected range of 1-14 days/year. Desired Skills, Experience, and Competencies: Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of a dynamic research environment. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including scientists, technicians, and other team members. Excellent attention to detail, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy in experimental procedures and record-keeping. Strong familiarity with laboratory techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction and purification, PCR, qRT-PCR, gel electrophoresis, library preparation, and microscopy. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other general computer skills. Familiarity with computational biology and bioinformatics tools and pipelines using Benchling/DNAStar, R, Python, or Linux is beneficial but not required. Ability to perform fine-motor tasks with a steady hand is required. Experience with microinjections is a plus. Experience with the derivation of primary cell lines and iPSC reprogramming is highly desirable. Knowledge of genome editing techniques (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9) in vitro or in vivo is a plus. Knowledge of the aquaculture industry is not required.
