Research Scientist - Comparative Biosciences Veterinary Medicine
Job Summary Establish, develop and implement experiments on the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on the female reproductive system in vivo; Implement experiments on the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on isolated ovarian cells and follicles in vitro; maintain quality control in accordance with good laboratory practices; provide instruction to professional, graduate, and undergraduate students in specific experimental procedures; assist the research coordinator with duties related to experiments, laboratory upkeep, and laboratory management. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on the female reproductive system in mice, including animal handling, dosing, tissue collection, histological evaluation, gene expression assays, protein assays, and hormone assays
  • Conduct research on the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on the ovary, including ovarian and antral follicle isolation, culture of ovarian cells and antral follicles, gene expression assays, protein assays, and hormone assays
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication and presentations of research findings at conferences
  • Supervise operation of lab equipment
  • Order lab supplies
  • Maintain lab protocols and safety standards
  • Use appropriate software to statistically evaluate data
  • Train undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral trainees on lab methods and protocols
  • Assist the research coordinator with experiments and lab upkeep
Minimum Qualifications

1. B.S. in Animal Sciences and M.S. in Nutritional Sciences or closely related fields.

2. Experience conducting in vivo and in vitro experiments on the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on the ovary and female reproductive system using mouse models; publications in scientific journals, evidence of presenting posters at scientific conferences.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Research training in reproductive toxicology.

2. Laboratory experience with mouse handling, dosing, tissue collection, qPCR, follicle culture, and other laboratory techniques.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of reproductive toxicology techniques and Microsoft office software and statistical programs.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The salary for this position is $56,000. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
