STATUS: Full time, non-exempt

LOCATION: Bellingham, WA

SALARY RANGE: $34-38/hr depending on experience

Position Summary:

We are seeking a curious and detail-oriented Analytical Technician to join our Foundational Research and Development team! This role involves executing both standard and specialized testing to advance research objectives. Under the guidance of the Senior Analytical Chemist and Technical Director, the technician will contribute to critical projects focused on chitin extraction and innovative chitosan manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Must operate and work within our Mission-Driven Culture Core Values and Principles and encourage others to do the same
  • Collaborate with the Foundational Research Team to achieve research goals through analytical support
  • Perform chemical analysis as directed by the Senior Analytical Chemist
  • Perform chemical analysis by GPC, FTIR, UV-Vis, titration, total nitrogen by combustion, thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic viscosity, and any other required to support Foundational Research.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper functioning
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and results
  • Develop and validate new testing methodologies as directed by the Senior Analytical Chemist
  • Conduct directed and self-directed literature reviews
  • Prioritize laboratory safety, workplace cleanliness, green chemistry, and sustainable industrial practices
  • Provide and receive regular feedback

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Chemistry, or related field involving laboratory sciences and analytical chemistry
    • And/or significant (2+ years) laboratory experience with strongly evident analytical chemistry experience
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Positive attitude towards sustainable and green practices

Licensing & Special Requirements:

  • Subject to a criminal background check.

Working Conditions:

Most of the work is performed in a lab/office environment. Must be comfortable with prolonged periods of sitting or standing, as well as wearing any required PPE.
