Chemical Manufacturing Technician (Overnight Shift)
Job Description
This role supports safe and efficient chemical manufacturing operations by managing materials through an ERP system, preparing and dispensing chemicals to specification, maintaining accurate records, and participating in safety and regulatory activities. The position requires strong chemistry knowledge, attention to detail, and comfort working with hazardous materials while following strict safety and environmental regulations on an overnight shift.
Responsibilities
- Monitor inventory levels and schedule work orders effectively using the ERP system to support continuous production.
- Create work orders, transfer materials, and accurately decrement inventory within the ERP system.
- Change, dispense, and stage materials for production as needed to meet internal specifications and timelines.
- Create materials according to internal specifications in a timely manner and deliver them throughout the facility.
- Maintain accurate and detailed product, process, instrument, and training records in compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
- Follow established procedures for the manufacturing, storage, and transportation of chemicals.
- Handle regulated waste in accordance with current waste disposal (RCRA) and hazardous material DOT regulations.
- Adhere to hazardous material spill response protocols and participate as a member of the Hazardous Material Spill Response Team.
- Participate in customer and regulatory audits, including OSHA and EPA audits, by providing documentation and operational insight.
- Gather, interpret, and analyze scale readouts and related data to ensure accurate batching and material handling.
- Troubleshoot issues related to product quality and delivery as they arise, escalating concerns when necessary.
- Participate in receiving, downloading, and uploading materials from tanker trucks into bulk tanks.
- Comply with all safety standards and procedures while working around chemicals and other substances.
- Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including full-face respirators, for extended periods.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area in line with GMP and safety expectations.
Essential Skills
- Basic knowledge of chemistry and the ability to apply chemical principles in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in a laboratory, chemistry, or chemical handling setting.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manufacturing processes consistently and accurately.
- Strong math skills for interpreting scale readouts, calculating quantities, and verifying measurements.
- Ability to use an ERP system to create work orders, transfer materials, and manage inventory transactions.
- Ability to gather, interpret, and analyze operational data to identify and resolve quality and delivery issues.
- Capability to handle regulated waste and follow RCRA and hazardous material DOT regulations.
- Ability to comply with all safety standards and procedures and work safely around chemicals and other substances.
- Comfort working overnight hours on a fixed schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Chemistry or a related field.
- Must have a basic knowledge of chemistry, with practical application in a laboratory or manufacturing environment considered a plus.
- Familiarity with GMP or other regulated manufacturing processes is beneficial.
- Willingness to obtain HAZWOPER 24-hour Technician Certification (training provided onsite).
- Willingness to complete RCRA awareness certification (training provided onsite).
- Willingness to obtain Certified Powered Industrial Truck Operator status (training provided onsite).
- Ability to be medically cleared and adhere to the employers Respiratory Program, including testing, passing, and being fitted for respirator use as part of standard PPE.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and record-keeping skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills for troubleshooting quality and delivery issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a safety-focused, audit-ready environment.
Work Environment
This is a full-time overnight position with a regular schedule of Monday through Thursday, 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Initial training will occur Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., for approximately 4 to 6 weeks before transitioning to the overnight shift. The work takes place in a chemical manufacturing environment that includes laboratories, production areas, and bulk tank facilities. The role involves working around chemicals, regulated waste, tanker trucks, and bulk storage systems while following strict GMP, OSHA, EPA, RCRA, and hazardous material DOT requirements. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for extended periods and may include safety toe footwear, gloves, safety glasses, goggles and/or face shields, lab coats, chemical-resistant aprons, sleeves, hoods, and Tyvek suits. The position also requires the use of a full-face respirator (APR and/or SCBA) for long periods as part of standard operating and spill response procedures. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.89 - $27.77/hr.
