Job Overview
The Research Associate is a two-year, Post-Bacc full-time position at the Earth Commons. This position is thematically focused on the human-environment nexus of food production and the development of more sustainable and just food systems. The Fellow will serve as the manager of the Hoya Harvest Garden , a garden located at the heart of Georgetowns campus that provides food to those in need and educational opportunities around sustainable agriculture to the university community. The fellow will also have opportunities to tailor the Fellowship to their own interests within this broader topic as time allows. Ideal candidates will have farming/gardening experience, strong organizational and communications skills, and a passion for sustainable food systems.
Work Interactions
This position will report directly to the Chief of Staff. The Earth Commons is a fast-growing institute committed to furthering the interdisciplinary study of environment and sustainability. In order to effectively implement a successful campus wide Institute, the Earth Commons needs a solid administrative team to support staff and multidisciplinary faculty in completion of their work. This position will engage with faculty and fellows from across the university and research partners nationally and internationally.
This position will be mainly based at Georgetowns Hilltop Campus, however some work at the Capitol Campus may be required as the Earth Commons now functions at both Georgetown locations.
Requirements and Qualifications
Candidates must possess a bachelors degree 1+ years experience with gardening or farming. [ note : consideration will be given to candidates with an equivalent combination of education and work experience ]
Ability and willingness to work in variety of outdoor conditions
Ability to lift 40 lbs and traverse variety of terrain
Valid (or willing to obtain) drivers license, Food Handlers Permit, GAP or FSA training/certification

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$20.16 - $31.30Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidates individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the Universitys business needs and external factors.
