Lab Technician
Job Description

The Materials Evaluation Lab Technician I plays a crucial role in supporting laboratories and technical teams with sample preparation, test preparation and execution, data analysis, and project support. The Materials Evaluation Lab characterizes the microstructure and physical properties of products using various advanced techniques including optical and scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, X-ray diffraction, hardness, tensile/yield strength testing, and Keyence image analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples by dissecting sputtering targets from manufacturing or clients, sawing, cutting, and polishing for testing.
  • Perform laboratory testing including microscope analysis, chemical testing, and physical testing such as hardness and tensile strength.
  • Conduct X-ray Diffraction tests.
  • Set up equipment, assemblies, and experiments.
  • Collect data per work instructions or experimental plans.
  • Prepare reports with data and analysis.
  • Support senior level lab technicians and engineers with project execution.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Essential Skills
  • Experience in a laboratory or manufacturing industry.
  • Proficiency in chemistry, metallurgy, and chemical testing.
  • Comfortable using power tools.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associates degree or Bachelor's degree in a scientific field such as Chemistry or Materials Science.
  • Strong tenure in previous roles, ideally in a manufacturing or lab environment.
Work Environment

Work independently in a group of 8-9 people with a low-key atmosphere. The role requires curiosity, understanding of mechanisms, and asking insightful questions. The work environment includes working with power tools and polishing equipment, as well as handling acids and solvents in an ISO14001/ISO9001 certified setting. The position operates on a 2nd shift schedule, from 2pm to 10pm, Monday through Friday.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
