Lab Chemist IV

Summary
The Lab Chemist IV is responsible for performing complex chemical and physical analyses on samples, utilizing advanced instrumentation, and ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and leadership in training and operational improvements.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Perform complex analytical testing on samples following prescribed procedures.
- Calibrate, operate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory instrumentation.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation issues and recommend operational solutions.
- Ensure accurate, timely completion of all associated documentation (e.g., calibration logs, run logs).
- Maintain compliance with QA/QC protocols and troubleshoot non-conforming results.
- Manage chemical supplies and materials within assigned responsibilities.
- Handle waste in accordance with environmental and company policies.
- Ensure a safe work environment and adherence to OSHA, Health & Safety, and company regulations.
- Recommend and implement enhancements to laboratory processes.
- Provide training to less senior laboratory personnel and participate in Chemical Hygiene Plan activities.
- Review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) annually and pass required quizzes.
- Uphold standards of Clean Compliance and best management practices in all tasks.
Education & Experience
Minimum Requirements:
Education: At least 2 years of college or specialized training in Chemistry or a related field.
Experience: 710 years of relevant laboratory experience.
Note: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certifications & Licenses
- OSHA 24- or 40-hour training with annual updates
- DOT training
- IATA certification (as directed by Transportation Compliance)
- Applicable local, state, or federal laboratory testing credentials
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong teamwork and communication abilities
- Excellent organizational skills, decisiveness, and initiative
- Proficiency in problem-solving and data interpretation
- Competent PC and software skills
- In-depth understanding of math, chemistry, and analytical testing procedures
- Proven experience in laboratory environments
Travel Requirements
Less than 10% travel expected
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervisory Authority: No direct reports
May assist in training and mentoring staff but does not perform hiring, performance reviews, or disciplinary actions.
