About Us We are harnessing the world's best protein factory to create a world of healthy abundance. Our vision is to expand accessibility and affordability of therapeutics, transforming human health globally. Through pushing the boundaries of genetic engineering, we're exploiting living bioreactors to produce highly valuable complex proteins using existing industrial-scale infrastructure. Our platform can rapidly and scalably produce almost any protein, and provide a new environment for novel therapeutics. Role Summary: We are seeking a Protein Scientist with expertise in protein purification, analytics, and downstream processing to support our ambitious synthetic biology projects. You will play a critical role in purifying proteins from a non-canonical substrate, produced by our proprietary platform, characterizing those proteins (including their PTMs), and liaising with Contract Research Organizations (CROs). As part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary team, you will help shape our overall downstream processing strategy to ensure scalability and efficiency, and ultimately radically transform protein purification at scale. Key Responsibilities Protein Purification & Analytics Design, optimize, and execute protein purification protocols (e.g., chromatography, ultrafiltration). Characterize purified proteins using a range of analytical techniques (e.g., SDS-PAGE, HPLC, mass spectrometry). Implement and refine methods for protein quality control and stability testing. Develop and conduct assays to prevalidate protein purification strategies, ensuring reproducibility and scalability. Collaboration & Liaison Work closely with CROs to coordinate outsourced purification and analytical work, ensuring timely delivery of results. Collaborate with internal teams to integrate protein production with purification workflows seamlessly. Downstream Processing Strategy Contribute to the development of scalable and efficient downstream processing approaches. Evaluate emerging technologies and techniques to enhance our protein production pipeline. Minimum Qualifications PhD/MS in biochemistry, protein science, bioengineering, or related field, or 3+ years hands-on experience in protein purification and downstream processing. Proficiency in modern protein purification techniques, including chromatography (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion), ultrafiltration, and protein analytics. Hands-on experience with protein characterization tools (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western blot, spectrophotometry, HPLC). Strong understanding of downstream processing challenges for complex proteins. Experience liaising with CROs or external partners. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive with excellent problem-solving skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Preferred Qualifications GMP experience Experience with scaling protein purification processes from bench to pilot scale. Familiarity with multiple recombinant protein expression systems (e.g., mammalian, microbial, avian) Experience purifying untagged, non-antibody proteins Knowledge of regulatory considerations for therapeutic protein production. Why us? We are on a mission to reimagine the way in which complex biological molecules are produced to transform everything from cosmetics to therapeutics. Here, you will play a pivotal role in an early-stage, fast-growing company, working alongside leading scientists and entrepreneurs. You will have the opportunity to participate in the enormous potential upside while having a huge impact on the world. We're building a future of healthy abundance, one living bioreactor at a time. To do so, we're bringing together some of the best talent in the world - including you. We're very serious about what we do, but also serious about work-life balance, being decent people, and loving being at work.
