Medical Laboratory ScientistLocation: 1900 NSUNRISE DR, USA, Saint Peter, MN, 56082Base Pay: 33.32 - 44.07 /HourDescription: Description Responsibilities: Perform diagnosticlaboratory procedures that provide timely and accurate test resultsfor providers use in appropriately diagnosing and treatingpatients.Participate in our Laboratory's Quality AssurancePlan.Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by practicingRiver's Edge Hospital's Standards of Behavior.Understanding thatthe clinical Lab exists to service patients.Showing initiativeand/or cooperation to maintain work flow.Participating inteamwork.Wear a Vocera every day for your whole shift toeffectively communicate with other departments and yourco-workers.Recognizing testing and lab priorities and actaccordingly.Exercising good judgment in non-routinesituations.Communicating effectively (orally and in writing) withother workers, supervisors, patients, and the public.Communicatingtest results, normal ranges and specimen requirements.Answeringinquires about test results, methods, specificity, sensitivity, andspecific factors that can influence test results.Seeking assistanceor clarification when needed: accepting constructivecriticism.Adhering to federal and state laws, regulations, andguidelines. (OSHA, CLIA)Adapting to changes in practice, acceptingand implementing approved changes and learning new tasks.Takingresponsibility for one's own career development, seeking out andparticipating in appropriate continuing education.Managing stressand resolve conflicts.Perform EKGs. (Mortara ELI 380) EKG RhythmStrip-Lead II when ordered by the provider.Right sided EKG whenordered by provider.Pediatric EKGs. Perform only those waived,moderate, and/or high complexity tests that are authorized by theLab Manager and require a degree skill commensurate with theindividual's education, training or experience and technicalabilities.Follow the Lab's procedures for specimen handling andprocessing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records ofpatient test results.Properly identify and collect adequatespecimens for laboratory testing via the following collectionprocesses: VenipunctureCapillary collectionArterial collection(Radial only) Participate in proficiency testing program.Adhere tothe Laboratory's quality control policy and procedures; documentall quality control activities, instruments and procedurecalibrations and maintenance performed.Follow the Lab's establishedpolices and procedures whenever test systems are not within theLab's established acceptable levels of performance.Be capable ofidentifying problems that may adversely affect test performance orreporting of test results and either must correct the problem orimmediately notify the Lab Manager, Senior Lab Tech, TechnicalSupervisor, or Clinical Consultant.Document all corrective actionstaken when test systems deviate from the Lab's establishedperformance specifications.Possess a working knowledge of reagentstability and storage.Is knowledgeable and adheres to Patient Billof Rights and hospital policies relating to privacy,confidentiality and respect (HIPAA).Is knowledgeable in and followsand promotes facility policies and procedures including, but notlimited to Infection Control, Safety, Quality Assurance, Lab'sChemical Hygiene Program, etc.Must be flexible with sharingscheduled weekends, holidays, evening shift, and overnightscheduled shift.Is willing to serve on facility committees whenasked to do so (Employee Safety Committee).Is willing toparticipate in CQI and other lab projects.Must be flexible withsharing training duties for new employees and MLT/MLS students withother Lab personnel when requested to do so.Must be trained andcertified to collect Urine Drug Screens for DOT and Non-DOTemployees.Requirements: Have earned a Bachelor Degree in MedicalLaboratory Science (MLS) from an accredited institution or anyBiologic Science or Chemistry Degree, and must be certified by ASCPor equivalent. If not already certified, new graduates must beeligible obtain MLS Certification within one year of employment.Must be certified with one of the following: ASCP, HEW, HHS, ASMT.Must be able to travel to other work sites as needed with owntransportation.
