Job Summary

Vicor is looking for a highly motivated Process Engineer - Material Scientist and formulator to serve as a SME for discovering and developing innovative electronic, adhesives and molding compounds. The selected candidate will have a key role in the development of materials and processes used in Vicor next generation 5G based products. Vicor 5G based product evolution will be leading the industry for power conversion packaging and power density.

Job Description

  • Serves as the technical lead on the compounding and production of new cutting edge material used within Vicor ChiPs (Converter Housed in Package).
  • Designs, develops, and compounds highly filled thermosetting polymer materials using a variety of techniques including twin-screw extrusion.
  • Spearheads new material development projects in the areas of filled thermoset polymers, adhesives, and potting compounds.
  • Provides hands-on processing operations including polymer processing, data acquisition, data summary, data analysis, preparation of presentations and reports.
  • Responsible for introducing new innovative material science technologies from outside vendors and academia.
  • Interfaces and collaborates with toll manufactures, engineering firms, and academia.
  • Takes ownership of the compounding and mixing process from material procurement and incoming inspection, to final quality control and packaging.
  • Develops and maintains SOP and quality control documentation.

Education / Qualifications

  • Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's Degree in plastics engineering, chemical engineering, or material science.
  • 2+ years' experience in formulating epoxies, polyurethanes, silicones, etc.
  • 2+ years compounding of highly filled polymer systems.
  • Experience interfacing and collaborating with outside vendors and toll manufacturers.
  • Experience with safely operating Twin Screw Extruders and ancillary equipment.
  • Ability to design experimental plans and provide clear interpretation of results.
  • Knowledgeable of common thermoset resins and basic chemistries involved in polymer compounding.
  • Competent with laboratory analysis of formulations commonly used with thermoset materials, DSC, TGA, TMA, etc.
  • Experience preparing SOP documentation.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional fast-paced team environment.

Compensation Data

Salary Range:

$85,000 - $110,000

Please note: This range is based on our current market driven pay structures. Individual salaries are determined based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to, a candidates overall qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience as well as company internal equity.
