About the Position

The Research Laboratory Manager supports the Principal Investigator with the execution and maintenance of the research study, and the management of study documentation. The Research Laboratory Manager may supervise the work of research study personnel in the performance of experiments, data collection, analysis and reports.

This is an on-site position assigned to the Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point, NY. A thorough government background check will be required.

About The Project:

The NCAA-U.S. Department of Defense Concussion Assessment, Research and Education Consortium is the largest concussion and repetitive head impact study in history. The project, funded by the NCAA and DOD, launched in 2014 and now includes participants on 30 campuses across the country. The CARE Consortium, part of the broader NCAA-DOD Grand Alliance, is composed of two major components: a clinical study core, which aims to define how symptoms and physical signs manifest and evolve over time in different people (known in the scientific community as the natural history of concussion), and the advanced research core, which seeks to identify the neurobiology of concussion and repetitive head impact exposure (how the brain itself is affected).

Salary Range:

$87,000. Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidates related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee staffing, hiring, salary negotiations and performance review processes for staff
  • Conduct counseling, corrective action, up to and including termination, with Human Resources and Director
  • Oversee programmatic/ study related conduct ensuring staff perform tasks within scope of project
  • Manage all staff to ensure optimal performance on each study
  • Ensure staff demonstrate basic understanding of their job description
  • Plan and facilitate individual and team meetings
  • Assure all staff complies with Foundation and site policies, procedures and SOPs

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), International Air Transportation Association (IATA), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and infection control procedures, as applicable
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing basic study related procedures and/or experiments as required
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of laboratory experiments
  • Observe recording, measurements, and report results in notebook and technical reports
  • Collection of data, data analysis and data entry
  • Preparation of interim and final progress reports
  • Dissemination of research results
  • Process and ship samples according to regulations and protocol requirements
  • Receive and record shipments received
  • Attend conferences and present research findings on behalf of the research team
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts
  • Maintain and update literature library of journal articles relevant to the research topic
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of all research records
  • Ensure cleanliness, disinfection and maintenance of all areas and equipment
  • Supervise and train research personnel
  • Oversee receipt and inspection of raw materials, lab ordering and stocking, as requested
  • Document all correspondence and communication pertinent to the research, as required
  • Interact and communicate effectively with Principal Investigator, other site personnel, research participants, The Geneva Foundation and the study sponsor
  • Comply with rules and regulations as applicable to assigned duty station
  • Maintain and update files of all applicable regulatory documentation for IACUC or IRB (including protocols, approvals, amendments, modifications, etc.) as well as any communications with the sponsor or any other Federal or regulatory office (including prior approvals, change in scope, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience required
  • 3-5 years experience in the biomedical field preferred
  • 3-5 years non-profit, research, or healthcare experience desired
  • 1-3 years experience in staff or project management
  • Demonstrate competence in oral and written communication
  • Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly and professional demeanor
  • Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in fast-paced, high-pressured environment with strict deadlines and to manage multiple projects
  • Computer skills including at least intermediate level experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office Software
  • Masters in Science is strongly preferred
  • Strong data management and processing skills
