Job Description:

Texas A&M AgriLife Research, located in Temple, Texas, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. We seek an innovative and highly motivated candidate specializing in hydrologic modeling, water quality, carbon dynamics, and CO2 and CH4 emission modeling. The successful candidate will contribute to developing and evaluating aquatic carbon dynamics and CO2 and CH4 modeling in freshwater systems, with applications in the multi-scale APEX/SWAT agroecosystem models for conservation assessment.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews on aquatic methane production and emissions across various freshwater systems, with an emphasis on monitoring and modeling research.
  • Compile and analyze current scientific data on CO2 and CH4 emissions in freshwater ecosystems.
  • Acquire, organize, and evaluate CO2 and CH4 emission data from freshwater systems, integrating environmental and other measurement datasets.
  • Design and implement CO2 and CH4 emission processes and parameterization within the APEX model.
  • Evaluate and refine the enhanced model for various freshwater agroecosystem landscapes.
  • Integrate and assess the enhanced processes within the SWAT model.
  • Document model development processes and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Soil and Crop Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, or related fields, with a focus on terrestrial and freshwater ecosystem modeling and water quality assessment at the watershed scale.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient understanding of agroecosystems, watershed hydrology, soil-plant-water relations, and aquatic carbon dynamics.
  • Solid experience with process-based models, including APEX/SWAT.
  • Proficiency in computer programming, including scripting in Python, Fortran, or other computing tools for data processing and modeling.
  • Experience in grant proposal writing within a collaborative environment. Strong interdisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated publication record in watershed modeling and analysis.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team under supervision.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, professionalism, and competency.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Other Requirements:

  • Appointments and extensions are contingent on performance and funding availability.
