We are searching for the best talent for a Principal scientist, Data Scientist, Clinical Pathology & Safety Biomarkers to be in Spring House, PA and La Jolla, CA.
Purpose:
The Clinical Pathology & Safety Biomarkers (CPSB), Pathobiology, Preclinical Sciences and Translational Safety (PSTS), is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist to develop and conduct data analytics, visualization, and application of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning approaches in the CPSB laboratory. The CPSB laboratory is a team of medical laboratory and biomarker scientists responsible for delivering on the PSTS translational safety biomarker vision of end-to-end (efficacy-to-safety, Discovery through Post-Marketing) across all J&J modalities and therapeutic areas.
The Principal Scientist will be responsible for applying data science approaches to analyze complex data-sets to drive key insights and support translational biomarker strategies. The candidate will need to have a breadth of skills and knowledge to address key biological concerns and portfolio needs into meaningful data science questions and approaches to deploy relevant data analytics and visualization techniques. The candidate is intellectually curious and will thrive in a dynamic, multidisciplinary and collaborative environment. This role reports to the Translational Biomarker lead of the CPSB team.
You will be responsible for:
- Working closely with internal stakeholders (within CPSB and Pathobiology) and external partners (Scientific & In Vivo Strategies and Technology Research Systems) to understand and prioritize use cases and implement our Data Science roadmap for prioritized data science initiatives.
- Building a robust data infrastructure by cleaning, optimizing, and strategically defining clinical pathology and biomarker data management practices.
- Automating the transfer, aggregation, curation and connection of clinical pathology and biomarker data and relevant study data and metadata from diverse sources, handling various file types and formats.
- Developing and deploy data science solutions, including data processing, database programming, algorithm development, data visualization, , and communication of insights to PSTS partners
- Building of custom pipelines/apps for big data analysis, bioinformatics, statistical modelling and biological interpretations of in vivo study data
- Providing leadership in Data Science management practices, fostering a data-driven culture, applying innovative approaches, and ensuring data compliance
- Provide expertise and mentorship on data science methodologies
- Conducting quality control checks to ensure accuracy of data and data integrity compliance
- Communicating data workflows and solutions to stakeholders
- Collaborating, presenting, and communicating project-related deliverables in multidisciplinary team meetings that include pathologists, immunotoxicologists, and nonclinical safety leads
Qualifications / Requirements:
Education:
- a minimum of a Master's degree in Biology or related field with programming and data science expertise or in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Science, Data Science, or applicable quantitative field with experience in biology is required
- a PhD is highly preferred
Required:
- A minimum of 6 years Data Science experience in an industry or academic setting post-degree in positions of increasing responsibility is required
- Expertise in data visualization and dashboarding (e.g. Excel, Spotfire, Tableau, PowerBI, R-Shiny) is required
- Good knowledge of SAS, Python, or R programming, is required
- Strong track record and ability to work independently is required
- Analytical mind-set, intellectual curiosity, eagerness for continuous learning and passion for translating data into applied solutions is required
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required
Preferred:
- Experience in Biology, Biotechnology, In Vitro Diagnostic, or Health Care industries is preferred
- Proficient in Python/R/Alteryx programming and experienced with Data Science Cloud platforms like Amazon, Snowflake, and Domino is preferred
- Experience and proficiency in the use of statistical models, including (but not limited to) multivariate linear regression, cluster algorithms, decision trees, logistic regression, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), machine learning (supervised and unsupervised), Bayesian Methods, Neural Networks etc is preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with biological research is preferred
- Understanding and proficiency in laboratory-based in vitro techniques including molecular techniques (e.g. PCR) and immunoassays (e.g. ELISA) is preferred
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $115,000 - $197,800
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
