About the Role:
The School of Pharmacy invites applications for the Research Laboratory Technician position in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct biological characterization of small molecule compounds to develop therapeutics for neurodegenerative disorders
Setting up and performing experiments; assisting and teaching and other laboratory staff (postdocs, student workers, graduate assistants, etc.) about specific laboratory techniques and protocols
Assist with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents
Maintains and order equipment and supplies
Helps monitor compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates
Laboratory and instrument maintenance, customer training and support
Daily bench work involving cell culture, ELISA and data processing
Independently handling and maintaining advanced instrumentation, e.g., plate reader, western blotting, etc.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related field
Knowledge in cell culture and cell biology, research techniques and methods
Excellent organizational, attention to detail and time management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Analytical skills and problem-solving skills
Ability to exhibit professionalism to work both independently and collaboratively
Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with VCU colleagues and all customers and contacts necessary to effectively support research studies
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
B.S. or M.S. degree with 1-5 years of prior experience in a research environment
Experience in cell biology or molecular biology, cell culture handling and ELISA
