The Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral research associate position in Kexin Xu's lab. Selected candidates will perform highly interdisciplinary and collaborative scientific research in one or more of the following areas: Explore the roles of epigenetic programs in normal growth and disease formation; Decipher the changes in the epigenetic machineries upon developmental or pathological stimuli; Identify diagnostic/prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for multiple human cancer types; Develop chemical probes and therapeutics for pre-clinical studies and potential clinical applications. The successful candidate will be expected to: Perform all the assays under the PI's instructions, analyze the data, and generate figures for publication and presentation purposes. Develop research projects based on generated preliminary data. Draft manuscripts and help the PI with grant application and presentation preparation. When becoming senior, mentor students and junior postdocs. Assist with lab maintenance and efficiency Minimum Requirements: Doctoral degree in molecular/cellular biology, cancer biology, or closely related biological sciences. Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in next-generation sequencing technologies, high-throughput screens, and/or animal models is a strong plus. Excellent communication skills with people with different background such as computational science is highly valued. This position is offered as a 12-month appointment, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. This role is designed as a training opportunity in preparation for a full-time academic or research career. Postdoctoral Research Associates work under the supervision of a senior scholar, focusing on full-time research or scholarship, with the freedom to publish your findings. This is an Exempt level, benefited position.
