Summary The Dye QC Chemist III is responsible for conducting analytical testing and characterization of raw materials, semi-finished intermediates, finished products, and new compounds/products in various stages of design and development. Additionally, the Chemist III will support method development, documentation, and process improvements with their technical knowledge in analytical chemistry. This position will be expected to execute responsibilities with a large degree of autonomy requiring minimal oversight by immediate manager. Individual must be comfortable working in cross-functional teams under defined deadlines. Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform analytical testing and characterization of materials using established standard processes

  • Ensure equipment/instruments/columns are maintained for optimal performance, including calibration, preventative maintenance, inventory of spare parts and testing standards, and qualification for use

  • Review and analyze testing data from raw material suppliers and external testing vendors

  • Lead or participate in troubleshooting, customer complaints, CAPA investigations, validation and measurement system analysis of various test methods, and stability studies

  • Work collaboratively with Research, Process Development, Dye Manufacturing, and technical SMEs/leaders to ensure successful transfer of new products into Operations

  • Support the development of methods for new products and optimize existing methods to improve efficiency and accuracy

  • Train and mentor junior chemists in the setup, execution, and characterization of QC test materials, including assisting in data interpretation

  • Identify, investigate, and implement process improvements for efficiency and cost saving opportunities

  • Assist in work scheduling and facilitating team meetings to communicate timelines, testing and quality requirements, safety updates, and equipment maintenance

  • Documentation in lab notebooks, batch records, and basic databases

  • Develop, write, and edit existing SOPs; ensure validity and accuracy of information

  • Collaborate with IT and vendors on equipment contracts, maintenance, software, and troubleshooting

  • Promote a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.

  • Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by reporting manager

Education and Experience:

  • M.S. in Chemistry, Engineering, or Life Sciences with 2+ years of relevant industry experience, or

  • B.S. in Chemistry, Engineering, or Life Sciences with 5+ years of relevant industry experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience with analytical chemistry techniques and instrumentation, including HPLC/GPC systems, spectroscopy/fluorimetry, Karl Fischer titration. Ability to apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and non-standard situations.

  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to perform routine work, accurately solve problems, and improve processes

  • Ability to influence others without direct reporting ties

  • Experience with quality systems and guidelines (e.g., GLP, GMP, ISO)

  • Experience with Six Sigma methodology and statistical analysis (e.g., Minitab); Six Sigma certification preferred

  • Experience with CAPA investigation/root case analysis procedures strongly preferred

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, effective written and oral communications skills

  • Solid MS Office Knowledge, Intermediate to Advanced Excel usage required, proficiency in ChemDraw preferred

Physical Demands:

  • May perform laboratory work inside a glovebox to maintain inert atmosphere

  • Work with compressed gases and cryogenic liquids using proper PPE

  • May need to lift carboys or boxes

  • Overhead work inside fume hood

Work Environment:

  • Laboratory work under red lights (low light)

  • Potential use/handling of hazardous chemicals

  • Office/desk related work
