Job Description

The role of the Chemist involves ensuring a high level of accuracy in performing analyses using complex instrumentation, such as HPLC and LCMSMS. This requires critical analytical thinking and decision-making skills. The Chemist is responsible for carrying out routine maintenance and calibration of instruments, providing updates on workstation status to supervisors, and reviewing LIMS summary reports to effectively plan and organize daily work. Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is crucial when conducting work. The role includes performing sample preparation and procedures prior to analysis, preparing reagents and calibration standards, interpreting data, calculating final results, and entering data into the LIMS system. The Chemist also carries out quality control procedures, recognizes unacceptable data, identifies non-routine samples, and seeks guidance on procedures for handling.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure high accuracy in analysis using complex instrumentation such as HPLC and LCMSMS.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of instruments.
  • Provide updates on workstation status to supervisors.
  • Review LIMS summary reports for planning and organizing daily tasks.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in all tasks.
  • Conduct sample preparation and procedures prior to analysis.
  • Prepare reagents and calibration standards for analysis.
  • Interpret data, calculate final results, and enter data into LIMS.
  • Carry out quality control procedures and recognize unacceptable data.
  • Identify non-routine samples and seek guidance for handling.
  • Meet quality and TAT specifications required by clients.
  • Communicate procedural non-conformances to supervisors.
  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risks such as mislabeling and cross-contamination.
  • Adhere to Code of Ethics Policy.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field.
  • Entry-level candidates are welcome; 1-2 years of experience in analytical chemistry is preferred.
  • Experience with HPLC, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, and mass spectrometry.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Science B.Sc. or equivalent with 0-3 years relevant experience.
  • Experience with HPLC, GC, or IC is an asset.
  • Strong science background and experience in laboratory practices.
  • Competency in reviewing analytical procedures and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • High degree of accuracy in work.
  • Positive outlook and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking, and priority-setting skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Work Environment

The work environment is an industrial hygiene chemistry lab. The position follows the 2nd shift schedule from 1-9:30 PM, Monday to Friday, with no weekends involved. The lab consists of a total of four people on the 2nd shift. The laboratory offers a diverse range of testing methodologies, with a focus on pharmaceutical and environmental samples. The lab is not GMP regulated, providing more flexibility. Employees will receive extensive training on instrumentation, with opportunities for growth within the lab. The lab boasts over 1000 methods for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and works with top global pharmaceutical companies. Benefits include holiday and PTO, as well as flexible hours.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
