The Chen lab in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy, University of Arizona is seeking multiple postdoctoral fellows to investigate molecular mechanisms underlying lung infections (viral or fungal) and chronic lung diseases such as asthma. Research in the Chen lab is currently supported by multiple NIH R01 grants and focuses on molecular immunology and inflammatory mechanisms. Cutting-edge research models (eg. primary cell/organoid cultures, mouse models and human clinical samples) and technologies (e.g. scRNA-seq, CRISPR) are utilized in the lab. the PI is highly experienced in mentoring postdoctoral trainees and is strongly supportive for their career development.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead a NIH funded project studying inflammation and immunology in lung diseases
  • Screen literature, perform critical analysis of prior research, design and execute experiments, troubleshoot once necessary
  • Write manuscripts, and present data in research conferences
  • Contribute to grant applications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of molecular and cellular biology techniques (qPCR, Western blot, CRISPR, etc.)
  • Knowledge of vitro cell models and in vivo animal models (viral/fungal)
  • Knowledge of general pathophysiology and molecular biology
  • Proficiency in data analysis skills
  • Strong problem-solving and experimental design skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree such as PhD or MD in biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology or related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in immunology or prior research experience in lung disease models or first-author publication(s) in high-impact journals.
