Performs technical procedures in all disciplines of the clinical laboratory, including but not limited to: Transfusion Service, Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis and limited Microbiology. Provides technical support for problem resolution, regulatory compliance, and client issues to the Department Manager and Lead Technologist. Responsible for validity of test results, result reporting, specimen handling, and maintenance of necessary department records. Demonstrates competency in all aspects of highly complex, moderately complex, and waived testing performed in the Clinical Laboratory. Assists with collection and analysis of comparative method, parallel testing, and method performance specification data. Evaluates the validity of test results prior to reporting to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results. Performs laboratory functions that require subjective judgment to directly achieve analytical results. Ensures the integrity of quality control and patient data. Review QC data to determine if there are shifts or trends that compromise patient results. Performs instrument/test maintenance and function checks. Review instrument problem logs to determine if there are patterns or trends that negatively impact patient results or the financial operation of the system. Follows laboratory policies and procedures for venipuncture, specimen handling, and processing of patient test results. Examines and evaluates specimens for compliance with all pre-analytical specimen requirements and maintains positive identification of specimens throughout all phases of the assay. Performs the steps necessary to achieve quantitative and/or qualitative analysis of patient specimens while following all required procedures and policies related to her/his specific job duties. Report test results through laboratory information system via manual keyboard entry or data interface. Performs proficiency testing in the same manner as patient testing and follow-up on proficiency testing failures if indicated. Performs and documents QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function. Makes quality control decisions regarding the disposition of an assay or test. Answers questions and resolves problems relating to assay performed and instrument problems, troubleshooting as needed. Assists with the assessment and implementation of processes or systems to meet regulatory requirements. Cleans and maintains work area; sets up equipment, instruments and apparatus required for specific laboratory tests. Collects and disposes of waste in proper receptacles. Assists and maintains supply ordering, labeling and inventory for the department. Notifies responsible party when supplies need to be reordered. Maintains complete written records of all technical work performed, including test calculations, standard readings, calibration settings, quality control results, and reporting time and initials of individual who performed the test. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from laboratory established performance specifications. Call all stat and critical value results to the appropriate individual in accordance with laboratory policy and procedure. Assists with the orientation, training, and competency assessment of new employees to the theoretical and technical aspects of the department. Provides direct and constant supervision to Laboratory Assistants. Adheres to all Hospital policies and procedures (i.e. Administrative and Human Resources), practices safe work habits, and engages in good business standards and practices. May work day and night shifts. Also, works rotating weekends.Job Description :
Education Requirement : Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Physical Science, Chemical Science, Biology Science or closely related field.
Experience Requirement : 6 months of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technologist, or closely related field occupation.

Specific Requirements:
Knowledge of laboratory test methods, specimen requirements, test limitations, test interpretations sufficient to perform tests accurately and to recognize and analyze problems effectively.
Skill in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instruments.
Skill in performance of manual and automated test procedures.
Skill in the recognition and analysis of problems in laboratory test performance.
Skill in phlebotomy.
A valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License is required.
RATE OF PAY: $60.07 to $76.11 per hour
