Senior Scientist Biotransformation

Our client in Groton, CT, a leader in drug discovery and development, is seeking a Senior Scientist Biotransformation to join their Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics, and Metabolism (PDM) team focused on small molecule drug discovery. In this role, you will support and guide the understanding of human drug metabolism through curation and interpretation of large-scale experimental metabolite ID data to drive predictive modeling efforts to maximize the value of the curated data. This is a long-term engagement offering the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research with real-world therapeutic impact.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze high-resolution mass spectrometry data (HRMS), including MS2 fragmentation for small molecule structural elucidation.
  • Interpret metabolic pathways using knowledge of human drug-metabolizing enzymes and common metabolite types.
  • Collaborate with computational ADME staff to develop and apply computational models to support biotransformation research in small molecule drug discovery.
  • Leverage spreadsheets and/or BI tools (e.g., Excel, Spotfire, Tableau, JMP) for data visualization and analysis.
  • Apply statistical methods to derive insights from complex datasets.
  • Contribute to internal discussions and presentations of data insights and recommendations.
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry) or MS with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Human drug metabolism enzymes
  • Common metabolite structures
  • General organic chemistry
  • Experimental systems for assaying metabolism
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing HRMS data, including MS2 fragmentation patterns.
  • Keen interest in computational approaches and data-driven science.
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools (Excel, Spotfire, Tableau, JMP).
  • Solid foundation in statistical principles (through coursework or practical application).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with automated analysis of HPLC-HRMS or HPLC-UV-HRMS datasets.
    • Familiarity with HPLC-UV data analysis.
    • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R).
