As a Research Scientist/Entomologist, you will join an interdisciplinary program focused on discovering and characterizing novel insecticides. You will independently plan, schedule, and execute solutions to complex research problems, often requiring innovative methodologies and integration of various factors under limited supervision.You are expected to develop your capabilities, write effective research reports, make oral presentations, consider the commercial implications of your work, and recommend new projects. Additionally, you will contribute to preparing patent applications and external publications.

  • Joining the Non-Crop Advanced Testing Laboratory, focusing on developing, designing, and conducting biological assays to characterize experimental urban pest management agents for controlling medical, veterinary, structural, and urban pests.
  • Weighing, formulating, and applying experimental and commercial insecticides to pest targets and their habitats.
  • Assessing insect behavior and susceptibility.
  • Collaborating in global project teams to support early through advanced phase projects and existing market products with Professional and Specialty Solutions Development and Marketing.Conducting limited greenhouse and field-based research.
  • Planning, scheduling, and executing subsequent research steps based on generated results.
  • Providing innovative solutions to project challenges.
  • Preparing written formal reports and presentations for internal and external communication regarding project status, experimental procedures, and research findings.

If you...

  • Have a minimum of a BS degree with 2 years of experience, or an MS/PhD in agriculture, horticulture, entomology, crop protection, or a related field-ideally with coursework in pest management, statistics, and experimental design.
  • Have prior experience in non-crop or urban pest management or insect ecology research, including safe lab and field procedures, chemical handling, treatment application, and organism response assessment using tools like dissecting microscopes.
  • Demonstrate strong skills in experimental documentation, data entry and analysis (e.g., ANOVA, logDose-Probit), report writing (Excel, Word), and presenting results using graphics software, photography, and oral communication.
  • Exhibit self-motivation, clear communication, and effective teamwork, with a commitment to safely handling compounds of unknown toxicity.
  • Possess the physical ability to lift up to 15 kg (33 pounds) and work in greenhouse and agricultural field environments.
  • Show proficiency in entomology and lab techniques, with the ability to collaborate in diverse teams, communicate research findings, and travel up to 5% both domestically and internationally.
