Job Title: Sr. Research Scientist

Job Description

As a Sr. Research Scientist, you will lead a small project team to address technical challenges, primarily working with thermoplastics. Your role involves creating specialized properties out of film using commercial polymers, leading projects focused on targeted layered polymeric material development, and demonstrating an understanding of polymer structure-property relationships to create a development roadmap for evaluating new technologies and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Serve on multi-disciplinary project teams to provide technical input and deliver results aligned with team deliverables.
  • Develop and implement technical solutions through hands-on experimentation and problem-solving of technical issues.
  • Collaborate with other groups, business partners, and customers to assist in scaling up new technology.
  • Utilize the Scientific Method in planning and executing experimental plans and problem-solving.
  • Formulate hypotheses and develop experimental plans to test hypotheses.
  • Apply statistical tools appropriately to solve complex problems.
  • Understand and implement EH&S standards, policies, and procedures applicable to extrusion line operations, leading by example in safety behaviors.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years' experience in polymeric material science-related fields, ideally with experience in extruded film, multi-layered products, or related fields.
  • Fundamental knowledge of polymer material science structure-property relationships, polymer rheology, film extrusion, and film mechanical and transport properties.
  • Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Passion and knowledge about polymer material science and thin film applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in polymer (multi-layered) product development.
  • Materials testing and characterization experience.
  • New product scale-up and commercialization experience.
  • Design of Experiments knowledge.
  • Project management experience directing small teams (1-2 Scientists or technicians).
  • Bachelor's degree (+8 years) in Materials Science, Plastic Science, Mechanical Science, Chemical Science, or an advanced degree (Master's degree or PhD preferred).

Work Environment

The role is based at the facilities in Valley View, Ohio, with time spent in the lab, office, and collaborating with other departments and team members. You will work closely with the Manufacturing, Science, and Sales teams to develop innovative solutions for the Capacitor Film market. The position allows for one day of remote work, depending on project requirements, and offers excellent benefits, including 4 weeks of PTO and 12 holidays.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $77.00/hr.
