Optim Medical Center Screven is seeking a full time Laboratory Manager for the Sylvania, GA location.

General Summary of Duties

Collects, processes and stores specimens for laboratory testing. Conducts complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological laboratory tests. Prepares specimens, reagents and solutions as required. Observes tests and reactions and provides accurate and precise data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Performs maintenance, calibrations and quality control checks to ensure proper performance of all laboratory equipment. Must function independently in all phases of the laboratory.

Education, Training and Experience

· Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or have other science major with one-year laboratory experience

· Must satisfy all state requirements for Medical Technologist and have experience, preferably in hospital setting

· Must exhibit good communication skills with physicians, personnel, patients and their families

Essential Job Duties

· Manages and directs the department’s administrative and financial functions

· Evaluates personnel in accordance with performance standards in histology, biochemistry, microbiology, hematology, serology, cytology and blood bank

· Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors

· Responsible for administrative direction: interviewing, hiring, orienting, in-services, performance evaluations, and termination of employment

· Addresses complaints regarding Clinical Laboratory functions and works with supervisors to resolve the complaints

· Designs lab requisitions and coordinates improvements in Clinical Laboratory reporting systems; serves as liaison with Information Management Services as it pertains to Clinical Laboratory

· Attends and participates in administrative and other meetings, as appropriate

· Maintains established hospital and departmental policies, procedures and objectives; maintains the department’s continuous quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control, and compliance with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies

· Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies; develops an inventory system; oversees cost control measures in the utilization of department supplies, materials, equipment and personnel

· Directs the department’s continuing education programs; directs in-house meetings on a monthly basis

· Establishes and monitors criteria for the immediate notification of the practitioner responsible for the patient when critical limits of specified test results are exceeded; implements corrective actions as required

· Performs other duties as assigned

· Must have manual dexterity to perform duties

· Must be able to sit, stand and walk short distances during the workday

· Must be capable of handling interruptions during the workday

· Must be able to communicate with hospital personnel, medical staff and the general public in a positive manner

· Must deal with patients, families and public on professional basis

· Must have normal sight and be able to distinguish colors, as well as possess fine motor coordination skills

· Must be able to provide on-call/call back coverage as scheduled

· Must be able to lift and move patients as well as have ability to lift equipment as needed

· Must be able to push wheelchairs, beds, stretchers and various carts

· May have exposure to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment and must exercise safety precautions

· May have exposure to infectious agents, blood borne pathogens, odorous chemical and specimens, and other patient elements

· May have exposure to unpleasant work elements such as accidents, injuries, illness, chemicals, and other hazardous materials

· Must be able to communicate effectively with professional as well as non-professional personnel

· throughout the hospital

· Must be able to reflect favorably on the hospital in all outside contacts

· Must have the ability to work with confidential material with an acute sense of responsibility
