Legend Biotech is seeking a Scientist, Upstream Process as part of the Vector Biology team based in Philadelphia, PA.

Role Overview

This role supports upstream lentiviral vector production using suspension cell cultures, including shake flask and bioreactor systems up to 40L, with a focus on process optimization through Design of Experiments. The position also assists in downstream workflows such as cell clarification, ion exchange purification, and analytical assays while working both independently and collaboratively with cross functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lentiviral vector (LVV) production using suspension cells

  • Upstream LVV production with shake flask at scale (>2L production)

  • Optimize upstream process based on Design Of Experiemnts

  • Develop upstream scale-up process using single use bioreactor up to 40L

  • Supports LVV production for internal research teams

  • Cell clarification method development including depth filtration or continuous centrifugation

  • Help downstream production and analytical assays including cell clarification using depth filters, IEX and titration assay

  • Independently perform daily tasks and closely working with other functional members.

Requirements

  • BS degree with 3+ years; MS degree with 1+ years; PhD in molecular & cellular biology, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering or related field.

  • Experience in viral vector productions using suspension cell lines

  • Experience in bioreactor

  • Strong knowledge & experience in LVV technology

  • Perfusion and cell clarification method experience

  • Ability to think strategically, balance short-term goals and maintain flexibility is preferred.

  • Experience in vector core or CDMO is a plus.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced biotech environment and able to adjust workload based upon priorities

The anticipated base pay range for this is: $93,463 - $128,512 USD.
