Post-Doctoral Research Associate: Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering - UTK University of Tennessee Health Science Center - 4.0 Knoxville, TN Job Details Full-time Estimated: $51.3K - $61.1K a year 16 hours ago Qualifications Doctoral degree Chemical Engineering English Research Doctor of Philosophy Senior level Full Job Description The candidate will play a crucial role in researching microemulsions' fundamental chemistry and physical properties as they are used as an electrolyte in an energy storage or energy production device, such as redox flow batteries, or supercapacitors. The candidate must characterize the microemulsions before using them in an energy storage device using standard literature methodologies such as NMR, viscosity, conductivity, and x-ray and neutron scattering. The researcher will become a vital part of a research team to develop new microemulsion compositions and surfactant-based materials. The research project is fundamental in nature but directed at developing solutions to practical problems in energy. This position offers a unique opportunity for the researcher to further their knowledge in modern electrochemistry such as CV, RDE, and energy storage technologies. An externally funded project funds the project and research position, and employment is conditionally dependent on continued external funding. The researcher will work in Dr. Zawodzinski's and Dr. Imel's research teams and will: maintain accurate laboratory notes, provide research technical reports, prepare publications/reports, and assist in preparing oral presentations that summarize the accomplishments of the research program. Participation in general laboratory maintenance and safety programs and associated team research issues will be required. A successful candidate is expected to publish at least two papers in peer-reviewed journals/year, each with an impact factor greater than four. Research studies will be conducted on the UTK campus and the ORNL campus. Minimum Requirements The candidate must have successfully completed a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Chemistry. The candidate must work independently and be capable of designing, implementing, recording, and interpreting the results of experimental investigations. The candidate also needs to take a leadership position for day-to-day safety operations, addressing all of UT's environmental health and safety requirements. The researcher must have the ability and is expected to self-assess their research skill set, identify weaknesses, and secure learning resources to address these issues. In addition, the researcher must be willing to learn advanced electrochemistry and characterization techniques and exhibit a working knowledge of oral and written English. How to apply: In addition to the online application, please submit the following documents: Resume Contact information for three professional references A cover letter is optional For questions concerning this position, please email Dr. Thomas Zawodzinski at or Dr. Adam Imel at .
