What you'll do:

As part of a diverse team, lead efforts for the development of new processes and devices with application in ophthalmic and smart eyewear.

Areas of focus include materials development, new metrology tools/methods, and device characterization with a particular focus on electrochromic/ electronic shading technologies.

Work in the lab as an individual contributor conducting experiments and/or as a member of a team of scientists, engineers and technicians.

Supervise and direct technicians and engineers/scientists in the execution of experiments.

Assemble updates for technical review by peers, management, and partner organizations.

Contribute to preparation of project level updates to management, in partnership with project management team.

Review current literature and patents to determine new possible paths of exploration.

Collaborate with an international team of researchers and project managers across Hoya Divisions.

Prepare presentations in support of external third-party collaborations with attentiveness to protection of HOYA intellectual property.

Qualifications:

MS in a scientific or engineering technical field, PhD strongly preferred.

Preference to Materials Science, Electronics Engineering or Applied Physics background and relevant work experience in areas of electrochromic and electronic testing with a particular emphasis on metrology development in addition to fundamental research.

Understanding of light management testing, material compositional analysis and compatibility testing, including lifetime/robustness.

5+ years of work experience.

Demonstrated experience in management of development projects/programs.

Experience in new product development within a stage gate process preferred.

Experience in transitioning products from development into production and ongoing support.

Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Excellent communication and reporting skills are critical for this position.

Must be able to communicate appropriately with all levels of personnel within the organization.

Experience in DOE methodology for process optimization.

Experience in analytical modeling, for example mechanical and/or thermal properties.

Experience in MATLAB or Python Preferred (for Data Analytics and modeling).

Preparation of presentations on technical topics.

Ability to travel up to 20% (national and international). Trips to Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and Europe.
