Chipton Ross is seeking a Chemical Operations Technician for a contract opportunity in Torrance, CA. JOB SUMMARY:This job is primarily responsible for the packaging and shipment of Finished Goods. Some of the responsibilities are loading, unloading and cleaning equipment, packaging product, maintaining a safe and orderly work area, assisting other production areas as needed and overall plant Housekeeping. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):1.Responsible Care - in the delayered organization, it is important that everyone understand and accept their responsibility to work safely, protect the environment, and fully participate in the plant's EH&S program.2.Initiative - people who are self starters, who seek out work and improve the plant will do well in this role3.Work Process Discipline - plant safety and operating procedures are well documented. Being close to the process, success in this role is key for the team to achieve its goals.5.Teamwork - To be successful in this role the person will need to share the workload, effectively communicate with many people (including day support and maintenance), and participate in achieving the team's goals.oHigh School Diploma or equivalent required. oPrevious chemical or manufacturing experience and computer skills are preferred. oMust be able to follow written and verbal instructions, have good math skills, be able to work independently, be able to execute strenuous physical activities, work indoors and outdoors, and be able to work any shift.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:oYard responsibilities include, but are not limited to, sampling, weighing and inspecting loads, loading and shipping trucks, railcars, and iso-containers within scheduled time, filling and packaging drums & totes, and general plant housekeeping.oFollows Operating Discipline principles, procedures, and practices to ensure safe and efficient operationoOperates and field checks process equipment. Monitors process conditions, equipment, and control systemsoPerforms tasks assigned to operations (e.g. field checks, equipment preparation, samples, etc.)oEnsures operational activities and process performance are aligned with plant and business goalsoUses troubleshooting skills to resolve process-related deviations and problems; initiates work requests in SAP as needed.oUses process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and Operating Discipline.oPerforms process equipment troubleshooting, improvements, and preventative maintenance utilizing appropriate processes and disciplines.oExpected to use or develop computer skills and participate in procedure writing/verification and other AIMS activities.oUtilize "troubleshooting skills" to identify issues and report them to maintenance for repair (e.g., small leaks, replace valves, steam traps, etc.)oParticipate in the Immediate Response Training and participate in the IR team as requiredoSupport BU safety initiatives and programs.oParticipate on EH&S improvement teams and complete related action items as required.oIdentify potential safety issues, communicate hazards and complete follow up actions to mitigate. oComplete Operator Minor Maintenance activities to reduce maintenance costs and reduce production loss events.oContribute to the Business and Site AIMS Initiative oImprove Unit Operating Efficiencies and reduce energy consumption by monitoring equipment and recognizing abnormal situations.oEnsure waste material / hazardous waste is disposed of properly and receive annual RCRA training.oHSEQ responsibilities: Employee is expected to maintain a healthful and safe working environment and is further expected to:oMeet all legal, regulatory and other requirements of the site through general awareness and training. oParticipate in HSEQ activities provided by the site management. oIdentify and communicate the potential gains and possible improvements related to the work environment and management system through employee suggestion programs, during group meetings, or through other identified communication tools.oRemain in compliance with the rules, standard procedures and work instructions related to the specific job title and site location.oComplete assigned training through learning management system or attendance to assigned Web-Ex or Instructor Led Training (ILT) classes.oAll other duties as assigned.oThis job will require working an 8-hour fixed shift.oThis is a plant-based position located in Torrance, CAoThis job requires working scheduled and unscheduled overtime.The role that is generally first to see a truck when it arrives at the site and the last to see a truck when it is ready to depart. The role generally resides at the truck entry point to the loading/receiving site. This role confirms loading has been completed to greatest extent possible.oComply with the HSEQ Policy.oComply with Regulations, Legal and Internal Requirements as made known by the site and by the business unit (BU).oComply with the rules of the specific location to which one is assigned as well as the rules set by the business unit (BU) and client. oComply with all standard procedures and work instructions, aka SP, SOP, PWI, TM, to ensure productivity, quality assurance and cost effectiveness.oReview their work areas for potential losses and Report hazards to the direct supervisor. oReport Near Misses to the direct supervisor.oReport Incidents or Accidents to the direct supervisor.oIdentify and communicate potential gains or possible improvements to the management system.REQUIRED EDUCATION:Accredited high school diploma or equivalent required.WORK HOURS: Position starts out days for a month and then rotate with 12 hour days/nights. Schedule rotates.
