POSITION SUMMARY
The position is responsible for engine and powertrain development which covers a wide range of duties from the creation of test plans, test design, setup (including test stand construction, instrumentation, and controls), test execution, data processing, analysis, and reporting. Primary development activities will be related to operating and calibration of diesel and spark ignited internal combustion engines along with engine subsystems such as cooling, lubrication and fuel delivery, powertrain integration and hybrid systems. Other duties include component design, supporting bid and proposals, and program status reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work with Engineering to develop engine test plan including: Instrumentation list, Engine support systems, Test lab controls, Safety and Wire diagrams, electrical harness fabrication and soldering
- Configure Labview software/National Instruments hardware for data acquisition and controls
- Interface with engine controller and CAN bus messaging
- Write code for system controls including ECU and lab systems
- Maintain lab sensors, cabling, connector selection, instruments, and calibration data
- Maintain and configure lab-based support systems including heat exchangers, high- and low-pressure fuel supply, lubrication circuits, dynamometer hardware
- Configure test stands and prep engine/powertrains for testing
- Conduct engine and hardware tests including motoring, performance, durability, flow bench
- Conduct engine and powertrain calibration and controls work.
- Maintain lab logs and test data
- Create Excel templates for test data analysis and presentation
- Provide clear and concise technical writing for test reports, proposals, and presentations
- Communicate effectively with team members
- Support BE’s values, principles, vision, and mission
- Other duties as may be assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with courses in Combustion Engines
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in engine or powertrain development
- Proficient in Labview software
- Experience with CAN bus messaging
- Proficient with Coding
- Strong electrical knowledge pertaining to noise, signal, and frequency
- Ability to read and draft wire diagrams
- Hands-on/mechanically oriented
- Must be able to support the Baker culture with a focus on teamwork and a commitment to service
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft office suites including; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to pass a background investigation, including but not limited to nationwide criminal record search, and other relevant background information deemed necessary by BE.
- US Citizenship required (ITAR compliance)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with diesel engine development
- Knowledge of diesel fuel injection systems
- Knowledge of turbocharger and superchargers
- Experience with MoTeC ECU’s and MoTeC M1 Build software
- Experience with Hybrid or generator systems
