The department of Discovery Oncology is seeking a talented and motivated Scientist 3 to join our department and participate in the biology research efforts to identify and characterize the next generation of Oncology targets. In this role, the candidate will have the opportunity to translate initial basic biology findings into novel therapeutics by collaborating with various drug discovery groups across Genentech as part of multi-disciplinary project teams.

The Opportunity

  • Design and conduct experiments to discover and validate novel targets through innovative approaches.

  • Develop therapeutic hypotheses, identify robust pharmacodynamic markers, and establish strategies to drug the targets.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Genentech, including scientists in Histopathology, Genomics, Transcriptomics, Proteomics and Computational Science.

  • Present data in various forums, including lab meetings, department meetings, and cross-functional project team meetings.

  • Foster collaboration by engaging with fellow scientists across the department to exchange expertise and skills.

  • Stay up-to-date on relevant literature.

Who You Are

  • A Ph.D. in the field of Cellular Biology, Molecular biology, Cancer Biology, or related field.

  • At least 3 years of experience in an academic or industry laboratory setting.

  • Extensive experience in cell line engineering using both lentiviral and CRISPR-based approaches.

  • Proficiency in a broad range of biochemical, molecular, and cell biology techniques.

  • Experience working with mouse models relevant to cancer research.

  • A proven track record of impactful research demonstrated through publications.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to independently design, execute, and interpret experiments.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic research environment.

  • Motivation and interest to learn new experimental approaches and computational analyses.

Preferred

  • Candidates with a deep understanding of the mechanistic processes that drive cancer development and/or extensive experience using genetic techniques (such as CRISPR approaches) to study pathways involved in tumor progression are encouraged to apply.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $101,400 - $188,200. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
