Saint-Gobain Research North America is looking for driven, talented, and energetic entry level researchers to join the Engineered Component team. Engineered Components division is specialized in manufacturing of high-performance polymer plain lubricated & self-lubricated bearings, seals and related precision products, which have been widely applied in automotive, bicycle, electronics, O&G, OA equipment, semiconductor equipment, aerospace and general industry various kinds of applications.

We are looking for a Research Engineer with careful attention to details and excellent organization, communication, and problem solving skills. This role is to support the current research team in conducting hands-on laboratory experiments for key development programs. Phases of development include pilot, scale-up, and implementation of R&D processes into manufacturing. Projects will focus on process and product development activities related to Bearings and Seals businesses. This role will also be required to conduct product testing including physical and mechanical property measurements as well as performance testing related to the application using a range of analytical and specialized test equipment. This position requires interaction with different internal groups in different sites, locally and globally, as well as external customers and suppliers.

**ROLE SUMMARY**

Under the direction of the team leader, the candidate will design, run experiments, produce lab scale samples, operate pilot equipment, perform manufacturing trials, and analyze the experimental outcome. In addition to designing experiments for the candidates primary projects, the candidate will be expected to conduct experiments to support projects led by others.

+ Utilizes basic scientific or engineering principles and techniques to undertake specific tasks and projects with limited scope.

+ Manages and documents projects effectively with supervision.

+ Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility.

+ Seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making.

+ Incumbent will be required to submit technical reports on project progress and results.

+ Understands Gate Process methodology/ideology and utilizes and incorporates it in research projects.

**COMPETENCES**

+ Must possess a body of technical work commensurate with their years of experience including but not limited to: demonstration of familiarity with statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation.

+ Knowledge of basic polymer materials science and mechanical engineering/mechanics.

+ Project leadership including project management, team collaboration, and good oral and written communication skills are required.

+ Demonstrated basic knowledge in HSE.

**REQUIREMENTS**

+ Bachelors degree in Polymer Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or other related disciplines.

+ Must be able to travel domestically in the U.S. and internationally when needed (< />

+ Proficient with MS office tools. AutoCAD skill with design experience is a plus.

+ 1~2 years of laboratory experience working with various equipment (i.e. Polymer extrusion, compounding and injection molding) preferred.

+ Knowledge in sustainable materials (i.e. biosourced polymers and green chemistry) preferred.

+ General knowledge in experimental design and statistical analysis preferred.
