Scope:
This position is responsible for driving product development activities for the Skinbetter Science brand within LOreal Dermatological Beauty . The role involves managing new skincare development projects, maintaining existing products, and integrating new vendors and formulas into LOreal systems.

Responsibilities:
As a Senior Chemist II, you will:

  • Lead Research & Innovation Projects: Initiate project concepts, define objectives, create plans, assign priorities, and execute multiple significant R&I projects with limited supervision.
  • Problem-Solving Expertise: Independently investigate and resolve research challenges, ensuring innovative and effective solutions.
  • Project Coordination: Mobilize and coordinate internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Resource Management: Ensure the implementation of necessary technical resources to meet project targets and deadlines.
  • Scientific Advisory Role: Provide scientific expertise and advisory support to ensure projects run smoothly and meet technical requirements.
  • Mentorship & Training: Train and mentor technical project staff, fostering a culture of growth and development.
  • Compliance & Communication: Maintain awareness of all LOreal requirements for product development (e.g., Safety, Microbiology, Regulatory, Formulation Charters) and effectively communicate these requirements to relevant teams.
  • Formulation Expertise: Act as a skilled formulator in skincare, addressing technical challenges such as troubleshooting stability issues, improving micro-preservation, and making adjustments for regulatory and safety compliance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively across functions to keep projects on track within tight timelines, leveraging excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).
  • Consumer-Centric Approach: Leverage knowledge of consumer expectations across various markets (e.g., US, China) to identify innovative textures and products that add value and differentiation to the LOreal portfolio.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate advanced knowledge of applicable IT and R&I lab systems to support product development.
  • Team Leadership: May supervise and guide other team members, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.

Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering , or a related science field. (MS or PhD preferred.)
  • At least 7 years of experience in the skincare or suncare category, with a proven track record in product formulation.
  • Experience working with Open Development vendors to co-create innovative projects.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and collaborate effectively within a matrix organization.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and keep tasks on track to meet fast-paced launch timelines.
