Global Research and Development is seeking an experienced polymer scientist capable of developing new resins for use in material applications for the personal care industry with a focus on circularity. This role would report into the Global Research and Development Organization within Kimberly-Clark, located in Roswell, Georgia.
The scientist in this role will provide technical leadership and customer support for raw material development globally, responsible for leadership of front-end innovation and development up to the point of commercialization. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to effectively interface with a broad range of global team members, customers, and manufacturing. Practical experience leading projects, conducting mill trials, leading process troubleshooting, working with internal customers and external vendors is also a strong preference.
The role reports to the Global Research and Development Advanced Raw Materials and Circular Solutions Team Leader and receives direction in the form of specific project and/or sector objectives.
In this role, you will:
Lead raw material development work tied to circularity initiatives that improve the value proposition of internally or externally sourced material solutions.
Seek, recognize, define, and solve raw material related challenges in order to achieve GRandD objectives targeting the need of shared objectives with the various KC business unit needs.
Use Agile tools, LEAN, Six Sigma, Kepner-Tregoe or other recognized techniques to identify complex technical issues, help identify the root cause of the problem, and leverage hypothesis based learning plans for long-term control and/or containment.
Maintain technical relationships with strategic suppliers and development partners such as ExxonMobil, Dow, RWDC and others, ensuring key deliverables are met on shared objectives, in agreed upon timeframe. Develop characterization tests to support solutions for raw material challenges.
Document test methods and train lab staff to utilize new characterization test methods.
Provide technical assistance to raw material characterization lab.
Develop knowledge and skills to be recognized as an effective implementer of research principles, scientific analysis, and project management. Plan and carry out project responsibilities with limited assistance and direction.
Communicate and document project plans and results to key stakeholders.
Provide protection to raw materials, technologies, processes, and products through appropriate use of patents and trade secrets.

Bachelor's degree in polymer science from an accredited college or university (Advanced degree preferred) and 5 years of experience in polymer application development with a background in polymer science, polymer engineering, chemical engineering or chemistry.
Understanding of rheology measurement and data interpretation; Understanding of polymer characterization measurements and data interpretation (DSC, GPC, etc) Understanding of Polymer structure/property relationships
Experience troubleshooting extrusion processes
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts; Broad exposure to variety of nonwoven applications and key performance indicators
A demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects within required timeframes.
