Metallurgical engineer

Description

Conduct in-depth analysis of metals and engineered materials to assess structural integrity, composition, and behavior under various operational scenarios.

Innovate and refine processing techniques to enhance material performance and production efficiency.

Partner with cross-functional teams to advise on material selection based on functional requirements, durability, and cost considerations.

Validate that all materials conform to internal benchmarks and external compliance frameworks.

Investigate material anomalies and performance deviations through structured failure analysis.

Design and execute experimental protocols to evaluate mechanical and chemical properties of metallic systems.

Interpret test data to guide material improvements and inform design decisions.

Contribute to the development of novel material systems or processing methods for specialized use cases.

Provide hands-on technical support to production teams to troubleshoot and resolve metallurgical challenges.

Stay current with advancements in material science, processing technologies, and industry regulations.

Generate comprehensive technical documentation, including reports, specifications, and client-facing presentations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or a closely related discipline; advanced degree preferred.

At least 5 years of experience in materials development, testing, or process engineering.

Deep understanding of the physical and mechanical behavior of metals under thermal, mechanical, and environmental stress.

Skilled in laboratory testing methods such as tensile, hardness, microstructural, and chemical analysis.

Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes like casting, forging, welding, and surface treatments.

Familiarity with foundry operations or melt shop environments is a strong plus.

Knowledge of industry standards and specifications (e.g., ASTM, ISO, AWS).

Proficient in simulation and modeling tools relevant to materials engineering.

Exposure to advanced materials and sustainable engineering practices.

Experience in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

Familiarity with CAD tools and digital design workflows.

Background in capital equipment projects and process commissioning is advantageous.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $115000.00/hr.
