Position Summary

This position conducts laboratory evaluations in conjunction with the Laboratory Accreditation Program to determine compliance with the requirements of Ch. NR 149 Wis. Admin Code. The advanced Audit Chemist is responsible for evaluating municipal, industrial, commercial, public water supply, and public health laboratories that analyze wastewater, surface water, soils, sediments, organic liquids, hazardous waste, and groundwater samples as well as evaluating laboratories performing analyses in support of the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Salary Information

Starting pay for this position is between $33.95 to $37.82 per hour (or $70,616 to $78,665.60 annually), in addition to excellent benefits.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position is included in the classification Chemist-Advanced within pay schedule/range 15-03. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Remote Work: Based on an assessment of the goals and work activities, this position may be eligible for remote work. Remote work approval is based on individual circumstances and is subject to supervisor approval and DNR remote work policies. Approval is subject to change without notice based on business needs. Employees with approved remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin.

Travel: This position requires frequent travel (2-4 times a month). Travel in-state and out-of-state is required. Out-of-state travel is less frequent but can be as long as a week at a time.

Qualifications

Please make sure to address and describe EACH of the following qualifications applicable to your experience within your resume and/or letter of qualifications to be considered for this position:

Required qualifications include all of the following:

  • Laboratory experience analyzing samples or auditing experience with organic analysis including at least one of the following: liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC/MS, LC/MS/MS), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and high-resolution gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HRGC/MS) procedures
  • Experience reviewing (peer-review, auditing, etc.) analytical data and standard operating procedures to quality assurance and quality control requirements
  • Experience communicating technical information to diverse audiences (e.g., customers, peers, management, public meetings, etc.)

Preferred qualifications include any of the following criteria:

  • Experience interpreting Wisconsin Administrative Codes and Statutes
  • Experience interpreting requirements under the Safe Drinking Water Act
  • Attended and passed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lab Certification Office Training for Organic and Inorganic Chemistry
