Responsibilities:
- Prepare materials and samples for characterization and analysis
- Operate a variety of analytical instruments and laboratory equipment used for characterization of optical, physical, chemical, structural, and/or electromagnetic properties.
- Establish, refine, and document standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Analyze materials data using statistical and computational methodologies to expand current understanding of materials properties.
- Generate and execute experiments for materials/samples fabrication and testing.
- Support senior scientists within team in the research, development, and data analysis of materials.
- Work on cross-functional team with an open mind to new ideas in a fast-paced startup company.
- Use scientific, mathematical, and engineering principles to solve problems and improve processes.
- Demonstrate ability to perform advanced scientific problem solving and effectively communicate results.
- Designing, proposing, implementing, and reviewing plans to ensure company goals are achieved.
Required Qualifications:
- BS degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field with at least 1 year of industry experience or equivalent.
- Understanding of structural, chemical, and electronic properties of materials.
- Hands-on experience in sample preparation, instrument operation, data collection, and data processing.
- Proficiency in reviewing and analyzing data sets.
- Analytical experience, both measurement and data.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively to a variety of senior stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and safety conscious.
- Ability to work independently and to participate creatively in a collaborative team environment.
- Competency to work on multiple projects independently and set priorities to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- More than 2 years of experience in materials science research and development including materials development, characterization, and analysis.
- Experience in carbon allotrope materials.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in process development.
- Proficiency in reviewing and analyzing large data sets through known correlation methods.
Physical Requirements:
- This role will require extended periods of standing in a laboratory environment.
- This role will require extended periods of time sitting and working on a computer.
- The employee will be required to use his or her hands for lab instrument operation.
- Required chem-/bio-safety training upon hiring.
Compensations Range:
The expected base salary range for this position is between
$96,400.00 - $144,600.00
The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.

New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
In addition to base pay this position is eligible for tier based bonus and equity, healthcare, dental, vision, corporate discounts, paid holidays, PTO and sick time, 401K, employee relocation plan (if applicable)
